Shipped to Sager. I assume that, once inspected, I'll get an update on any options. Frankly, the 8800 SLI with a tweaked Q6600 should help for a year...
The 7950's were nice coupled with a X6800. No real complaints. But I have a break in the schedule that allows the Laptop to be gone for a couple weeks. I'd rather not procrastinate. But it does seem like timing sometimes sucks.... Hopefully Audigy will get around to a SetFSB for the D90x crowd...![]()

The D901C board use a the same PLL as M570RU but in a diferent way because of the desktop CPU support. The PLL Control Registers and the SMBus are configured in a very specific way because of the use of an mobile Clock Generator(low power) with desktop CPUs. Unfortunately SetFSB doesn´t support that PLL configuration...

I thought Dexgo (sp?) figured a way around it.

Via software is much safer, no need to mod anything, and you can chose the desired frequency via FSB in 0.3Mhz steps.

Makes sense. Notebook Hardware Control was supposed to look into this last year, but probably ran into the issue of something unique with the Clevo using a Desktop processor. Not all bad news though. It's still a blazingly fast machine in all of it's iterations.
I have three Q6600's to try modding [like Dexgo], hopefully one will work. Laptop already has 4gb of OCZ PC2-6400. Can't wait to yell "It's alive..." -
BTW, do I run the three Q6600's in parallel or in serial?

That does not look like a Clevo Laptop m/b! If you can't fix the SetFSB for us [D90xC users], at least find us the correct tri-Carb m/b with RamAir for additional power.
Seriously, thanks for your great work with the M570RU's, maybe we need to send you a D90xC to get you focus on a real machine -
Where is Dexgo by the way? I have a feeling his laptop fried

Shyster,
When it comes to upgrades I'm always defensive since the first mobo revision for good reason. I do agree with Wu Jen, it does offer loads of upgrade options for a laptop. On the bad side, an upgrade today costs almost half the price of a brand new just for a couple of cards and a motherboard (considering a first or second gen d901c and SLi config, of course). Last time I got a quote, to upgrade my machine it would cost me $1600. With this kind of money one can build an SLi desktop to play as a Media Center / Gaming machine on my DAN if that is an option.
Actually I'm fairly optimistic about the ability to upgrade to the 9800M GTX. It follows the trend, and the current chassis should offer enough ventilation and space to hold it (it runs cooler) considering a new motherboard. The only thing that might require changing the chassis is actually the holes necessary to support other I/O interfaces with external systems (E-SATA, HDMI), or a motherboard revision changing its cut.

I trust you didn't take personal offence - I was being just a bit tongue-in-cheek; however, I certainly think that a good dose of skepticism and reservation about what "might be" is healthy in this area, particularly if, like you, you've been burned in the past. That being said, I have noticed others posting things that are as negative now as some postings were euphoric in the past - in both cases without sufficient justification for the emotional excess, and every once in a while, by the same poster.
I quite agree with you that a certain measure of defensiveness is in order, not the least to protect the pocketbook; that's why, as I mentioned in the thread about the Q9450 now being offered by XoticPC and Powernotebooks that, notwithstanding the apparent success of PCMW and Eurocom in jumping out ahead of official Clevo statements regarding supportability of new components, I prefer to be a stick in the mud and wait until Clevo gives the official nod, even if they tend to be overly conservative and tardy at times. -
Shyster:
I'm not offended at all mate
"I have noticed others posting things that are as negative now as some postings were euphoric in the past"
I also see postings that are euphoric now as they were in the past:
"I was told that only a BIOS upgrade is required" (both for the Q9* and the 9*M) etc etc etc.
"Most probably only a BIOS upgrade is required, but we are not 100% sure" (notice that word Most as implying a good gamble)
"Vendor X and Y already support it"
These are statements similar to the ones posted back then.
All of them were quite mistaken. Maybe after three attempts, these kind of statements aren't negated in any way what so ever by Clevo brute reality checkpoints.
"I prefer to be a stick in the mud and wait until Clevo gives the official nod, even if they tend to be overly conservative and tardy at times."
That is good advice. I learned to follow that reasoning too.
Anyway this is all off-topic.
