First of all i would like to know your gpu idle temperature in the M570TU (to get an idea) by idle I mean you're browsing on the net for like 30-60 min and then close every apps runing (or reboot, whatever) and then let it idle for let's say 10 min on the desktop. What's your temperature at this point

I get 41-42 Celcius, which is good I think but i wanna get less.

Let's get to the point: Im trying to cool it down by undervolting (just like my cpu) or downcloaking to make it run cooler and be able to use my computer in a classroom (because fans cycle between low and somewhat too much loud for the person in front of me)

I know I bought a desktop remplacement and it's a drawback, it's the price to not having a crappy hp or something like others. But still i would like to drop my gpu temperature while surfing on the net + msn in class.

I don't want it to be permanent or not so long to put it back when gaming or doing Solidworks(CAD)

I tryed the last version of Nibitor (4.8) and cannot load the bios files.

At that point I don't know what to do ?

Tell me your temp even if you can't help me

EDIT : i saw this in another thread

use the "Silent Mode" feature that is built into the notebook
Nvidia Powermizer settings to lower GPU performance when on battery.

Ok right but can i get somethng like that by some software tweaks while in normal mode
Dont tell me to put in silent mode because it's louder than normal when it's spinning low

    perfectly acceptable GPU idle temp.

Like I said it's not the acceptability, I wasn't worried about the temps itself.

I wanna get less heat to make the fans speed lower.

well you can just run your fan at Medium Speed (Fn+3).

then the fans will keep things cool and stay at a quiet speed.

but you can only do so much to prevent the CPU and GPU to get to a certain temp that will kick on the fans:
    - CPU: can be undervolted
    - GPU: could be set to low performance mode

Silent Mode should be sufficient... especially if:
    - the system is properly on a clean, hard, flat surface
    - the room temp (ambient temp) is not too warm
    - and a good notebook cooler has shown to keep things cooler

Well how to set the gpu in low performance mode ? that's the whole point of the post. I may seems irritated but im just tired, nothing personal.

But a notebook cooler in a classroom full of people just for chatting and browsing internet ?

The problem is that in normal mode, the noice is perfect. then if i put it in silent mode, fans speed up... and at that point, it's too high for inclass. But in normal mode the fans speed up in a cycle pattern (while there's not really heat to dissipate much than before) so i guess that if i get to drop a few celcius of gpu idle, i could manage to be in normal mode (on battery of course) and not be annoying people around me.

have you tried to upgrade the fan firmware?

By the way Fn + 3 = nothing nor while in full fan(fn+1) or silent mode or normal mode

I did some upgrades but no flashing (yet) i got EC_09 and BIOS_10 waiting to be installed (lack of time) but did not read anything related to fans. Maybee there a file im not aware of ?

Someone PMed me a little guide to undervolt my gpu, Im definatly gonna try it but if there's a fan firmware I wanna know :)

Sorry if the synthax of my sentences may be wrong or unreadable

there are many owners of this notebook here.

there is even a M570TU/ETU owners thread that you should post in.

request for the latest BIOS and firmware.

EC_09 and bios_10 are the latest versions, and EC_09 is the fan firmware.

Ok thanks, I Just put them on today, got a BSOD on every reboot, never been able to boot on any of my 2 os... I used another computer to find on this forum the solution: Robson was set back to on and what made it crash is : SATA mode (or something) was set to AHCI instead of IDE... Now everythings fine, exept the fact that i don't see any differences in noise or temps.

Anyway i'll play with idle gpu voltages when im gonna have the time

if you run your gpus at their lowest settings, then the fans shouldn't even really spin up. and lowest is something like 200/100/300...but if your in class trying to look cute with a gaming laptop...you can for get it. :) move to the back of the class and keep a low profile.. :)

i wish someone would tell me my lappy was loud in class...they may get hit up side the head with it..hahahaha.j/k

I idle around 58C-60C (max I've pushed it was 67C), 42-45C in silent mode, and I thought those were decent/low (/me eyes thread). Is this thread about silent mode?

You can undervolt your cpu to decrease overall heat if you're paranoid about it (which I think you are).

In normal mode. I thought temps got higher in silent mode because of the little cooling  . What is your room temperature?

After a day with the laptop on, browsing internet, using photoshop, Visual Studio and some Counter Strike Source my Everest reports GPU diode between 37C and 43C when idle with a room temperature of 21C.

Not using a notebookcooler, only a notebook stand (to prevent RSI) maybe that helps bacause it gives open space to the fans.

Vista Aero on, power settings in High Performance.

Yeah, my D901C idles with ACPI between 55-60, CPU's (quad) between 52-60 (they all show different, for some reason), and GPU's 64-66 (HDD's don't show up as they are in RAID). My fan turns on when I load up websites with images and graphical content (presumably to keep my video cards cool).

If I feel the bottom the left fan area is cool, the middle two are fairly warm (the middle right being the warmest), and the right is fairly cold.
