I got my notebook the week before this one.
It's config is
P9500
4 Gig DDR3
120GB 7.200 (planing on using my old desktop HDs in eSATA cases)
I am a little concerned about the temperature ranges, because I don't want to send it back, but rather keep it; I am very satisfied with it so far, but I decided to install some tools for monitoring my temps, which I forgot about whilst playing through Assassins Creed.
OS is Vista Ultimate 64 bit, Driver is Forceware 177.92.
I searched through the forum and the web and found that the general opinion is, that over 95°C the temperature is rather bad and over 105°C it's probably causing instant damage.
CPUID reports my
GPU core temperature
in idle: 57°C
in Assassins Creed: 98°C
(Maxing out all settings and the resolution btw; If that is just pushing to hard in anyones opinion, let me know.)
Rivatuner generally reports one degree more under load and 2-3 in idle.
Edit: My ambient temperature should be around 65F.
I am happy about all oppinions, warnings, reinforcements, that can help me figure out how to do the right thing;
Send it in for a replacement
Find some DoItYourSelf solution that doesn't void my warranty
Live with it.
If this ain't the first thread about all this, i am sorry, but please take in mind, that it's the firs about my concerns and they are really bothering me and having me pretty uncertain and worried how to deal with it.

Wow thats way too high for normal operation. What is your ambient temp? At 70F, my GTX idles around 45C.
You might have a faulty GPU or cooling system.
Spraying Rubbing Alcohol into the system while hot will cool it a ton, but there is no way you can constantly do that -
Congratulations, you have the highest temperature ever recorded for the M860TU's GPU. I do mean this as a bad thing.
There's clearly something wrong here. Most owners have reported a max temp of 81°C under load; the highest temp I've recorded with mine is 89°C, but that was caused by the vent being completely blocked.
Two questions:
1) How long does it take for the GPU to reach that extreme temperature?
2) How long does it take for the GPU to cool down after you let the system idle?
I have to recommend that you call Customer Support about returning it for an exchange. Why wait until it finally fries? Sorry mate, but something is wrong. No matter what, the "just live with it" option is a big NO from me. -
I did not notice any "extreme" fan speed, but its hard to say how fast it could go. In Windows, where the temp already goes higher than with others, the fan does not speed up to cool it down.
It looks like the cooling was working, it drops faster than I would have expected, but it stays on a high level.
For sure I definitely will call customer support tomorrow. -
Instantly?! Yeah you're cooling system is out for a walk. You have no choice but to return it.
Don't even start up anymore games after this point. -
woah that's seriously hot. very probably the cooling system. let's all just hope this doesn't happen more often

I have the suspicion, that something got into the fan and slows it down, because I hear a periodic high-pitched noise, that I can't identify.
A friend of mine had an issue like this once and I fixed it for him by taking the fan apart (Radeon 9800 going up to 115°C).
Is it a breach of warranty to dismantle the fan? (Just asking for general opinions, not so much a compulsory answer.) -

Just as a notice, for anyone who wants to research the seller:
- Had it sent in and got it back within the noted 9 days as stated on the webpage, no hastle, no further payment.
- Gfx card replaced.
- Got it back, temps are down, totally satisfied. -
I decided not to post a new thread and just go on this one, but just playing crysis i noticed my temp jump to 92C not no where near 98 but 3 degrees away from 95C room temperature is 75F or 23.8C im not sure if i should be worried, but it only happens when playing Crysis other games usually stays @74C, does crysis push that hard or should i be considering a exchange as well? *Specs of laptop in sig* I play crysis @ 1280x800 resolution all on High settings not windowed full screen.
I havent done an extensive test yet, but something tells me now i will. -
That's high as well. A properly set up M860TU should be in the high 70s playing demanding games like that, based on what other owners have reported - at most. Crysis is THE most demanding game, however, but it still sounds high.

Yikes! 100°!
Are you making breakfast!
Just kiddin' -
Wow what a shocker i decided to take my notebook apart to see if it was something internal that was causing the issue turns out. It was like stickers not oridnary stickers but the kind you peel off something brand spanking new. blocking all the vents. I suggest everyone do the same and check theirs if they have any heating issues if any kind.

You're kidding me. /me goes to look inside notebook.
