I found a few places selling the 280m GTX card describing how to get it to work in a my Clevo with the 9800M GT

    http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/D901c.html

here is the site I found .. Is this possible with the M57RU model ?

Thoughts or suggestions.... I have had this laptop for over a year bought it last November in 2008 and it has been one remarkable machine I really can't believe the quality of these laptops ...

maybe I should just go for processor upgrade ?

I currently have the T8100 CPU and am really looking for better gaming performance so I am unsure if a processor is really going to have much effect I am still running 4 gigs of RAM should I just get more RAM or what ?

It's also a good idea to make sure you've updated to the latest BIOS as well.

The M860ETU required a BIOS update to work with the 260M/280M.

Actually i think it´s not a must. M86 doesn´t have a BIOS to support 3700M but mine works fine. But having newer BIOS is always better, resolve some little bugs.

I think you're right, the update I'm referring to didn't actually mention the GTX 280M.

In my BIOS, it lists the GPU as "Unknown", the update was probably just to make it say "GTX 260M" instead.

So Where do you guys go to get the latest BIOS flash ?

I am always searching EBAY for either a GTX or a 280 GTX card but I can never find them lol Hmmm I wonder why , has to be a way for us to buy these cards at a reasonable price ?

If you do find one on eBay, if you're going to use it in a D901C or M57RU, make sure it's a MXM 2.1 Type IV model, and not one of the newer MXM 3.0 or 3.0B cards, which won't fit in the MXM 2.1 connector.
