Well I'm buying a Sager NP8660 off of Xoticpc. And it seems they dont have the option for the GT , just the GTS. How much difference is it between the two cards? 1-2FPS difference or more?
    thanks.

yup just the 1-2% real life gaming difference it seems.

the 9800M GTS has less shaders than the GT, but apparently performs quite well with the same or higher clocks.

the GT is probably getting a revision... to make it faster probably.

So do you think i should wait maybe a month to see if the GT appears again or just go with the GTS and not worry about it?
    Thanks for your fast replies.

the 9800M GTS will due fine fall the best bang for the buck high-end notebook gaming... since its quite cheaper than the GTX and performance about 15% in difference.

Alright so the extra money isn't worth it for the GT over the GTS?
to get the GTX you'd have to self-install right? no resellers have it.

the extra money is definitely not worth it for the slight performance increase... its only worth it for bragging rights.

The GTS performs unexpectedly well and by the looks of it, OCes also very well.
I would get that and not look back if you like the Sager.
However, be warned, the cooling system in it is louder than your average laptop...

The cooling system is quiet. And if you are scared of the HDD heat, which isnt that bad, then get a notebook cooler. All performance laptops need one anyway.

    Or go with the Gateway 7811FX.. P8400 Montevina, 200GB 7200RPM Seagate 3.0, 4GB ddr3 PC8500 RAM, 1920.1200 WUXGA, 9800m GTS, all for less than $1250 :)

But that's a 17" laptop. He's in the market for a 15.4" laptop. It's a completely different dynamic and reasoning between wanting the laptops due to that.

The laptop runs quiet doing normal tasks. If you are playing a game, you will hear the air blowing out of the laptop, but as high as a typical laptop doing normal tasks with a dedicated graphics card. In other words, noise is not an issue with this laptop.

yea, that gateway 7811 is the best bang for the buck right now, but seriously...i (and this is me speaking) am really satisfied with my purchase of the NP5793...i have no buyers remorse for the 7811fx

Right...that's someone with buyers' remorse speaking. $$ cost vs. value far exceeds anyones' expectations with the 7811FX. And Deathwigger, Id much rather have(personally) a 17" SCREEN for $200 less than a 15.4 with lower specs. *shrugs* But that's me.

Is anyone using laptop2go drivers with the GT? How long will it be for official nvidia drivers to come out? I'm still using the stock drivers from the CD

Yes, but you already have in your mind that you'd want a 17" for value. This guy can EASILY get a Sager 5793 or a 7811FX if he wanted the 17". But since he is questioning the video cards for this laptop, which means he is in the market for a 15.4" laptop.

....then again, there is the odd chance that the size plays absolutely no part due to the fact the OP has never owned one or the other and would not take that into consideration. :)

i assume you were talking about me, so:

dude, i had the choice of driving down to the local bestbuy 10 minutes from my home to buy the 7811fx when it was on sale, but i chose not to...because as the saying goes (somewhat): the bitterness of low quality lasts far longer than the sweetness of a low price.
i wanted quality and performance....and with this sager, i got both..i am very satisfied...this is one sweet machine

Yeah I am in the market for a 15.4"
But, to answer your statement, the NP8660 has a better processor (T9400 montevina) and a larger (320GB 7200) harddrive, with the same GPU. Which to me, dont know about anyone else, is BETTER specs. only thing SOME might find better is the 1920x1200 screen on the 7811FX. which i could get on the NP8660 but dont want it. Also for the Bold DDR3 RAM in your post, the NP8660 also has DDR3.
So to me, the NP8660 is better performance for the reasons i just listed, and especially when its a 15.4" which i am looking for. :]
Your right about the price, the NP8660 is going to cost around 2,060 Shipped and everything.
As for the 7811FX is like what? 800 cheaper? That is a lot cheaper, but it simply doesnt fit my needs for a 15.4". Plus the NP8660 has a few better specs, so all and all, i'll be paying about 500 (if they were the exact same specs) more for better build quality and a 15.4" screen.
I can live with that :p
    Thanks everyone for their suggestions.

I just made the same decision and bought the NP8660 since a durable build and 15.4" screen are priorities for me too. No regrets so far. Any decision on a new laptop involves some compromise right?

note: you may want to think about a 5400rpm drive since the drive access speed shouldn't be a major limit to performance (something has to be the bottleneck and that one won't be an obvious one) and it will run cooler.

Does anyone know how important the pixel shaders are on a card when it comes down to performance and image quality in crysis, warhead etc.? Looks like I can't get a GT card now either.

On Notebookcheck.net the GTS has 64 vs 96 (GT) pixel shaders.......and the GTX a whopping 112.

Not really wanting to pay the money for a GTX either bit also want something to last me a couple of years :) So how important are the pixel shaders now and and possibly down the road?

    Thanks!

Got my Sager NP8660 back when it first came out and it came with 9800M GT. I gotta say 9800M GT is much better than 9800M GTS playing with Crysis.

the gts may have faster clocks...but when we get down to it, the gt and gtx with their sheer number of shaders will win......why do i say this? because as time goes on and games become more shader intensive, the number of shaders you have will matter more than the speed their at

Honestly, the GTS and the GT are pretty much the same card. The GT gets a frame or two better, but unless you're overclocking, it's probably better to save $65 dollars and get the GTS.

Or you could wait a bit and see if Nvidia's rumored 9800GT refresh is faster than either card. :D
