Still no nibitor support, or even gpu-z for that fact. Things are kinda slow developing for this card it seems. Anybody have any luck with anything else getting an overclock to work?

Well I can't seem to get it to overclock. No matter what I set the clocks to, they stay at the standard 500/1375/799 clocks. If I bump the voltage up .01v, the system becomes very instable. It will undervolt just fine though.

    Ok heres the deal:

I have managed to successfully get the 9800M GTX to overclock to quite an amount. It looks like 1.03v is the maximum voltage allowed on the card, and it will not go any higher. Quite upsetting there, but:

Clocks so far are stable at 630/1600/950 and my Vantage score is not P6125. Quite a feat. Those extra shaders make a big difference with the overclock.

My problem before was the fact that I had nVidia System Tools setting my clock speeds to 500/1600/799 since all that could be OC'd were the shaders. I turned off the auto clocks and the overclock took up perfectly. Very happy with the results.

My overall 3D Mark scores are not record breaking, but keep in mind I'm running a non overclocked 2.5 GHz CPU, not a 3.5GHz overclocked X9100.

wow, great score!! I'll try later how my 8800M peforms in Vantage..
What about an artifact scanning in ATi tool?? it can be useful to know if it is near to its limit! remember to move the cursor of artifact to "less overclock"..
    Thx

Hi! I am new here and i have a question. (Sorry for my english - i come from germany)

I have the Clevo M570TU with X9100 and 9800M GTX. I downloaded Nibitor 4.6, readout and modified the Bios. I bootet with Caldera Dos and wanted to flash with nvflash. But there was the Message Subvendor/system ID missmatch! Ok... when i readout my bios it shows me the correct IDs. But in the ADV INFO it shows the wrong IDs. I changed it manualy. Now it works and i can flash the Bios but i dont know if this will be work?!?!

@ emike09: Was there the same error at yours?

I'd be careful with Caldera Dos. I used a different DOS os and miffed my vBIOS pretty bad. If you can, stick to the MS Windows ME DOS.

Assuming by readout, you backup up the vBIOS and thats the one you modified. Since it is modded, there will be a different version when you try to flash.

    Use nvflash -4 -5 -6 "modded bios".rom and press "y" twice.

I get the same error, so long as your using a modded version of your original vBIOS, you should be fine.

    ok i force flashed with -4 -5 -6 and it will work! :) Actual with 550 / 1400 / 850.
    I flash it to 600 / 1500 / 900 now ... :D

    EDIT: wow... 11361 3Dmark06 :-D I beat a Desktop P8400 System with 8800 GT ^^

I'd say go for SLI (that means 2) 9800m GTX's if you got a lot of money...
It should be somewhat better than 2 8800's.

1 versus 1, the 9800m GTX is maybe 10-15 percent more powerful than the 8800m GTX.

Forgive me if I am misunderstanding your question.

No question about that 2x8800M GTX (SLI) is far better than single 9800M GTX. Example 1900x1200 Crysis GPU benchmark all high: around 35fps avg. for 8800M GTX(SLI) and ''only'' around 20fps for 9800M GTX, both cards non OC.

I thought the SM scores would be off the chart with a GTX clocked so high. It seems from your scores, 12000k is just around the corner.

You need to PM MrDJ that he has your score wrong, and he will correct that and also add the pic.

    Great score!

Hit my record so far... 10,770 with a 2.53GHz P9500 (stock) and the following:

    Core: 665MHz
    Shaders: 1670MHz
    Mem: 975MHz

GPU Temp NEVER got above 70C

    SM2: 5028
    SM3: 5188
    CPU: 2282

I'm going to assume itsfun is running the X9100? CPU score increase of 1000 points is pretty big. Once day I'll have an X9100 or the QX9300... someday...

It seems that this is nearly the maximum.

    GPU: 675 MHz
    Shader: 1650 MHz
    Memory: 950 MHz

I optimized the cooling of the 9800M GTX with liquid metal.

    At the first test with 600 / 1500 / 900 the maximum GPU-Temperature in 3Dmark06 was 71°C.
    With liquid metal at 675 / 1650 / 950 the maximum GPU-Temperature is 64°C now... :D

That’s a kick azz score dude!

I’m curious to know what Crysis is like with the GPU overclocked so high on the 98GTX alone with that processor. If you will, please start Crysis and set everything to high 1900x1200 DX10 mode and exit out of it. Go into your Crysis folder, then the bin folder. In the bin folder, click on the .bat file that is for the GPU. Run the test, and tell or post what you get, ok?

    Again, very impressive!

It seems like the difference between the 88GTX and the 98GTX is the amount of voltage being supplied to the card, and of course the 12 more shaders it has. It is my only upgrade option for my notebook at this time, so I’m very interested in your findings, thanks!

NOTE: If you don’t understand the question, disregard what was asked.

Itsfun, when posting your scores, will you include your shader scores? Its hard to compare and measure GPU performance when the test weighs so heavily on CPU.

Not sure, but don’t see no reason why it wouldn’t work. I’m just trying to get a good idea of some scores SM in 3dmark06 and GPU scores in Vantage. For some reason, screen shots of those are far apart and very few. Big mike has the 98GTX, and could be very helpful in posting some screen shots of Vantage (performance mode) default and overclocked.

Yup those shader scores (SM2 and SM3) Those show the true GPU overclock. Since we have different CPUs, yours of which is far superior, I cannot gauge your GPU overclock compared to mine without those. Most users here also prefer screenshots that verify visually your score, as its a lot easier to type a number as a result than to prove it with a screenshot or validation code. Not that I don't trust your score, cuz the score sounds about right with your config. But just for reference.

Vantage scores are becoming popular too. Might consider running that.

I'm not sure why, but I find the clocks I just used to be incredibly stable:
    665 Core
    1670 Shaders
    975 Mem

Even with fans set to auto, I'm not getting any artifacting, crashes, or any of the like, even after some pretty heavy benchmarking. Crysis for 1 hour, FSX for about 2 hours, and no lock ups or freezes. Seems I've found the sweet spot for my card. Temps have been great too, around 65-70C at room temperature.

The 9800 GTS is a G94, but it underwent similar revisions as the 9800M GTX underwent in the G92-750 revision. Hence making it better of an overclocker than the 8800M GTX.

Unfortunately, its maximum voltage is 1.03v. There is plenty of thermal allowance for a higher voltage, going to 1.05 or even 1.10 would bring some incredible speeds, and in my opinion, there is plenty of room to do it.

Anybody know any way to hard mod a mobile card, much like many hard mod the desktop 8800 GT/GTS? Or even know any way to increase the voltage above 1.03v.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see an 88GTX clocked so high. Thanks for posting the Vantage score, that is the first time I’ve seen a GPU score from a (single card) laptop to be over 5k. You put an Extreme processor in that notebook; you too will be over the 12k mark in 3dmark06.

Well i can guarantee it won't work without a BIOS update. When the Q6600 came out, every motherboard on the market that physically could accommodate it, released a BIOS update to support it. Has to know how to handle four cores.
