i just thought about something. it puzzles me why everyone here says how they are rock stable at 600 / 1500/ 950 but maybe they have the bios that supports the 9800 gtx? i have never updated the bios so i know that is one thing that is required to do in order to stick this card in here if i ever upgrade. maybe this is tied to the instability somehow? maybe this new bios allows for more volts or compatability with a higher TDP card?

Maybe your powersupply is not giving the watts and amps it needs.

I checkt my supply with a watt meter from my other hobby (rc planes) and checkt the amp, volt and watts. It a 120 watt 20.40 volt and 6 amp powersupply.

Running cod mw2 its reading 6.5 amps so i,am at the limit!
The thing is getting really hot after 1 hour playing :D .

my 220 watt power supply ran at 310 watts at times while heavily over clocked.

as for the going above 1.05 volt mod....don't think it really works...i volted up to 1.25 and it made no change what so ever. different stages of getting there made the card seem unstable...which is why i got so high...thinking more was better. but in the end...no gain what so ever...

DOS only handles 8.3 char filenames (8 char before '.', 3 char in file extension), the names in your dir command are the ones you need to use

    nvflash -overcl~1.rom will work.
