So it seems I've been added to the masses of having my card die on me, I tried baking but to no avail so I'm left with attempting to get a new card. I wanted to see where people would suggest getting one from and what card would be a good replacement?

welcome to the ever growing club.
the 260gtx is what replaced my 9800gt and its running well so far. runs cooler and give just over 1000 more in 3dmark06

Yeah, can't believe you managed to get yours under warranty...What's the comparison for the 260gtx and 280gtx for performance?

i always advise people to take out the extra warranty. whats a extra £100$ when youve spent 2 grand on a laptop especially after the 2nd year its starting to get old and thats when things start going wrong.

officially the 280 wasnt meant to fit but ive heard of others upgrading and its a lot better than the 260.
best i let 280 owners advise as im not sure of the %

There have been a bunch of threads already, but I got a FX3700 from Niffcreature. It's got the HP 1.0 vBios on it. I was worried about heat, so I went to Ace hardware and bought a little sheet of .016 copper sheet to replace the thermal pads on the vRAM. You can almost cut it with an old pair of scissors, I used tin snips and it cut like butter. I cut it into two strips, each one long and wide enough to cover one bank of vRAM. I squirted a little ICD on each side and polished them to a mirror finish. Then I spread a little ICD on each memory module and on the backs of the copper sheets, and a bit on the GPU. Put everything back together with the stock 9800 heatsink and this thing runs cooler than my old 9800 and is quite a bit faster. Not too shabby. I run stock FX3700 drivers, and I' happy with them.

Okay, well I've managed to secure an FX 3700M. Does anyone have a BIOS they'd suggest to use?

What is the card out of? Mine's out of an HP and HP 1.0 seems to be working well for me.

Also I am selling my old 9800M GT because I don't need it anymore as "backup rescue" if you're interested :)

What do "refurbished" mean in your opinion concerning the last linked card?
