Hey im in my final 2 weeks of my architecture degree at university and my 9800m GT died!.. started to have gfx distortion when i loaded a 3d program then i restarted it and it had gfx distortion right from bios.

Its in the Repair shop of my builder/reseller atm but im still waiting to hear form them about options. (i think they may be trying to reseat the heatsink or test it with another gpu).

Natural beacuse time is such a die need for me and i need to be working on my project right now im going to ask for what ever solution possible.. but what gpus will my Rev3 mobo suport.. i think its on quite a old bios thou.

im so anoyed i made sure my gpu was always cooled in the 65-80 range.. but looks like this australian summer and mabye abit of TF2 killed it :!(

only had it for a year and a half

    9800m GTS
    9800m GT
    260m GTX with Bios upgrade?

are these my options for a rev3 motherbored

I don't think anyone have tried to put an ati card into it... it might work, considering some resellers like Eurocom were planning to sell the W870CU with a 4870.

9800 gtx, fx 3700 will also work... 8800 gtx might work too.

3870 has been tested to work in the M860tu.

I would avoid nvidia for at least a year, they may have more problems. Anyway ATI is better with DX11. Stick in a 4870 and enjoy.

I know the 4850 and 4870 are supported by the M570TU BIOS. I don't think I've seen them in the latest M860TU BIOS though.

What do you mean by 'Rev3' motherboard? My memory tells me that the 9800M GT only came with the first gen M860TU. Am I wrong?

EDIT: also, take the 9800M GTS which SS posted. You'll only lose maybe two to five percent in performance, which can be made up with a small overclock.

The 9800M GTS is a very strong overclocker. It can easily break past 700/1750 on the core/shader. The memory has a max rating of 800MHz though, which is also the factory set clock, so you may not want to push the memory to crazy high clocks like 900MHz or higher.

Isn't the GTS just a GS with more voltage and higher clocks?

Why not just get a GS then?

And flash it to a GTS, guide is on this forum.
I still would go with ati.

Correct. The 9800M GTS is the same G94 card as the 9800M GS. However, eBay only had the 9800M GTS up for sale at the time of that post.

    Ok, I see.

If the OP is going for the GTS on ebay, I suggest sending a question to the seller, ask him nicely for the lowest offer he would take. Works for me on ebay. I think $275 is fair for that card.
