Anyone have any good tips for overclocking the 9800m GTS? Honestly, overclocking is something completely foreign to me and I'm a little paranoid to experiment with it myself.

I saw a post over at the Gateway forum where somebody said they overclocked the 9800m GTS in their P-7811 up to 760mhz core, 1075mhz ram, and 1700mhz shader, but I downloaded Riva Tuner and it shows my maximum possible clocks as being 600mhz core, 450mhz ram, and 1200mhz shader...does that sound right? Is it possibly because Riva Tuner doesn't recognize my drivers?

If RivaTuner doesn't recognize your drivers, then that is probably the issue. Are you still using stock drivers? If so, try giving that an update and see if it helps.

    That high an overclock? Wow...

If you manage to overclock yours to that level, you should definitely post benchmarks!

I have my doubts about the memory clocking that high, as the DDR3 used in the 98M series begins artifacting around 980. Tho shader and cores sound about right though, as the 9800M GTS can clock higher than the 9800GT and GTX due to its lower shader count. This doesn't make it faster than those cards though.
