Basically I'm looking at the NP8660 from xotic with the 9800M GTS and 9800M GT; I'm unable to find the shader cores on each chip, I have been able to find the amount of processing cores are the same are the same (64)
so if there is no difference in the amount of shader cores (not clocks) that means they are essentially the same and i shouldn't spend the extra $60 where I can just overclock
but if there is a difference then it would be worth it to spend the extra money to get a chip with more potential

Champ, I'd say wait if you can. We don't yet know where the 3870 will fall in (could be more powerful than the 9800 gts). That all depends on when you want to buy as the 3870 is ETA end of August. However, the gts vs. gt isn't just a matter of clocks. They quality test parts that have the same architecture to see which parts are better, and should be clocked like a GT vs. a GTS. In short, spend the 60 more if you are bouncing between the 9800's.
-
what do u mean by 3870 anexanhume?
-
GTS - 64 shaders
GT - 96 shaders
does it answer you question? -
I would like to point out notebookcheck is stating that 3870 is weaker than both 9800m gt and the 9800 gts in terms of benchmarks. Again this isn't for certain as the chip isn't coming out till end of august as anexhume has stated. I am guessing though the ati 3870 would have better battery life though because it is built on 55 nm chip vs 65 nm of gt cards. But in difference between gt and gts of 9800m series, it is very small. But i would still opt for the gt series

Also remember that nVidia has better driver support than ATI for a majority of games.
-
Not sure where all this ati talk is coming from, but the op was asking about gts and gt. As previously said, there is a physical difference in the cores. So its not just a OC thing.
-
is there any new information on the performance differences between a GT and GTS? ...
-
I see no GTS on Xotic's 8660 configuration page...
-
The GTS has been pulled due to compatability/bug issues that cannot be resolved in a timely manner for the release of the M860TU.
It may be offered in the future when all problems have been solved. -
-
Linksicle. This is very old news...
-
-
Just read. It's why they pulled it.
-
ps. I think you got confused with 3870 and GTS. -
Not sure what the deal is with the GTS vs the GT. The thread just says it was pulled and speculate on it being a technical reason.
But they've got it in other laptops now, like the Gateway P-7811 FX, and Eurocomm still lets you stick on in there. I'm guessing maybe it could be a supply/demand issue? -
ATI is buggy and not ready for the M860TU.
GTS does not have sufficient drivers.
GT is locked and ready to go.
Result: Everyone's getting a GT this Christmas. Some with less sacrifice than others. -

I don't see enough difference between GT and GTS..
-
The GTS & ATI is much better value. It's not like we are talking 256bit vs 512bit or something... $$$ for some extra fps in Crysis, I don't think so.
-
WTF is this 8900GTS?
Oh right, it's a typo. -

It is the next generation video cards from nVidia....
-
Does anyone notice something odd about Anand's article?
-
youdontneedtoknow Notebook Evangelist
seems like it, GT should be better than GTS and worse than GTX. (please see notebookcheck)
-
defiinitely mixed up; the GT has 96 SPs and the GTS has 64
9800m Gts 9800m Gt
