    Hey everybody!

    I have a couple of simple questions for Canadian user in this Sager forum

    What is your laptop?
    Which Model?

    Well I haven't bought mine yet, but I've been searching around alot, and I can tell you the different things to consider :

    US sellers (xoticpc,sager,ava direct) : After the final price of your configuration, you will need to convert to CDN $. Shipping will end up of around 100-150$ (including brokerage fees). Plus you have PST and GST to pay (13% tax)

    CDN sellers : In Quebec (AET solutions) : You will have to pay, after the final configuration, GST and PST (13% tax)
    Other provinces (Eurocom) : You will have to pay, after the final configuration, the shipping (around 50$) and GST (5%)

    Other than this, just look around, talk to the vendors and choose the place you feel the most confortable with. The warranty can also cover or NOT the shipping cost of a return depending on the vendor, so watch this carefully.

    I really liked the experience from XoticPC, but at the time I was not aware of Canadian alternatives. (Eurocom.. just sounded European to me :) XoticPC actually had competitive prices to our local guys as well in the end, but that was a year or so back so do check things out.

    I can say Justin and the boys at XoticPC are great; John and the boys at Eurocom seem great to (I've bought some things from them as well now), and Sager themselves (and Clevo of course) make wicked products; I ordered some bits from Sager direct to, so there :)

    The whole food chain is good, you just do your research to get the best deal and support.

    Don't use UPS.. they will destroy you in bull charges at the border.

    I bought my NP2096 in late August from PCTorque. The base system price was around $1000 US at that time...and the exchange rate was also pretty favorable.

    Including shipping and the exchange rate, the system cost me $1423 CAD up front. Then another $150 when the UPS delivered my package, I did order the expedited shipping so this wasn't a brokerage fee, I think it was tax.

    i'm on my way to order 8662 from Xotic. a week ago i talked to Eurocom guys, they told me that they gonna try to maych the prices. but while it 50% more expensive in comparison US traders... i'm not so sure this will happen... but anyway before i'll order it in Xotic i want to give Eurocom the 2nd chance.

    Haven't received it yet, but here is what I am waiting for (as I am sure are many other people on this board):

    Make/Model: Sager NP8662 (T9800, GTX 260M, 4GB RAM, 320 @ 7,200, 2yr parts and labour)
    Total Price (w shipping to the US): 2050 USD
    From: XoticPC

    Get it in the states if you can... it does save a lot of money.

    if my friend in States will order it for me - in case of warranty - who will be the "owner" and with whom Xotic will talk - me or him? i mean - i do not want to bother some1 with my problems in future...

    Your better off ordering yourself and placing the shipping address as the address of your friend. This way your the owner and you get to have it ship to the US

    He/she said it... just order it in your name with his address. I highly doubt you would have problems dealing with Xotic even if it was in your friends name.

    it's not working, coz they send laptop on the address of statement delivery (smth like this stated on their webside).

    BUT: the only option to deal is to put address of the friend in States as additional or secondary.

    I am 100% sure you can send it to another address. Anyway, just email Justin and explain to him that you want it shipped to a friend's house and he'll help you out.

    http://www.xoticpc.com/payment-information-ip-14.html
    "We will only ship to the exact address listed on the credit card billing statement for all credit card orders"
    it's not working, bro...

    but
    "(unless an alternate address is added to your account, then verified)"
    it's clear that if i'm diving instruction to my bank to add my friend's address as alternate address (and if my bank will do this with address in States, about what i've got doubts), this scheme will work.

    another option to play this game is to pay Wire Transfer and give Xotic address in States. Pros - i'm getting 3% discount, cons - it's a bit risky.

    I sent a money order - cheap, relatively fast, and secure enough. Honestly, given the fact that NP8662 is not going to ship until April 10th, you could probably even do a check and have it cleared by the time the system is ready to be built.

    My price was canadian; back in August i ordered. Got it in September.

    The canadian dollar was == to us dollar.

    if(CDN$ == US$)
    {
    prices--;
    }

    Eurocom might price match to other companies, u can check.

    your lucky.. The 3k ish price is with negociation lol :p
    They can't price-match right now because CDN dollar is low, so basically it costs them 20% more for the parts than it costs for Sager :/ But even getting from the states costs around 3k right now so yeah..
    I hate u recession :)

    *Edit* lol @ prepseb :p

    They had some excellent pricing options when I purchased it, those have since changed.

    Several Other Reasons:
    - I was able to pay only 5% tax cause I shipped it to my Uncle in Quebec
    - They were also generous enough to give a 5% student discount
    - I bought a 5100 WiFi card off ebay on my own for cheap.
    - I don't have bluetooth or an expresscard drive (didn't/don't need them)
    - They didn't have the HD3870 available so they gave me a good deal on a 9800GT
    (+$50 although Xotic/PNB gave it for free :( , brought my order from $1379CA to $1429CA after tax/shipping then I included the $40CA I paid for a wireless card and shipping from quebec to home and home to school)
