A cautionary tale of my Np9377...

You're probably wondering why I posted this. Well, this was the advertisement for a replacement screen I purchased. Why did I purchase a replacement screen? It all started with Titanfall 2.....

My *Old* system (Np9377 860m sli , i7-4810, 24gb ram, 60hz LCD) was running the game fairly well at a vsync lock of 60hz (720p),come to think of it everything I've played has run great. But like any man with the taste for more power I decided to press my luck. My first thought was old memories of overclocking my crt monitor back in my Quake 2 Rocket arena days ( showing my age a bit). So I did a little research, found some threads here and decided why not give it a go?

I slowly increased the clocked and watched how smooth things became 70, 80, 90 hz. Happy with the result and a silky smooth 90fps I stopped. I reloaded Titanfall 2, put on my headphones, and that's when it happened.

The screen froze. No big deal I'm thinking just need to dial the clock back a bit. Restart, black screen. Uh-oh. I hooked up a Hdmi cable to confirm what I feared: LCD died. Naturally she asked what happened and I replied like any Man would "What did that boy do to my computer?!" :biglaugh:

Hopefully my experience gave you a laugh. In the future I will make sure to get a laptop with a 120hz ( or higher Screen).

Unfortunate that his happened to you. My 60hz 1080p panel in my P370SM has been running at 110hz for well over a year now, almost two I believe. Am I just lucky, or are you very unlucky?

You are really lucky. My FHD panel works currently on 90 hz but for me the end is at 104 Hz, 105 hz gives black screen :(

All overclocking will carry some risk. Panel tweaking does not have a lot of evidence around it atm so it's hard to say what the pitfalls are.

It's probably my luck. I use to push the envelope with my 17 inch behemoth crt and Voodoo banshee 16mb 3d card.

I learned my lesson and will keep my eye out for the unicorn 120hz 50 pin cable. The 120hz monitors are pretty easily found.

Yeah not a lot of the cables were made I suspect.
