I love my laptop, but seeing how they designed these keys, you can't just snap them back in, seems waste...
I was cleaning my keyboard today and a cloth (thread)szq got stuck and ripped off the A key with my Sager N8278.

Since it seems with this keyboard the keys are attached into the base area, I cannot just snap it in as the bottom hinges snapped out and the small plastic teeth broke.
The top hinge part is still connected but typing i have to practically have to punch the key down.
What are my options for entire new key board because 1 key broke.....or can you replace 1 key?

so the plastic mount piece that holds the key down, the small notches that the top plastic locks into were bent, i un-bent them, the 2 pieces now fit together and tadda!!! back to normalHTWingNut likes this. -

Thanks for the follow up and how you got it fixed, I know it will come handy to some one as you are not the first person to ask about getting a key back on.

Yeah, keyboard keys need to become a serviceable component option. I've had similar issues in the past. You break one, if you're under warranty and are really really nice to the tech guy on the phone they will send you a cross ship keyboard replacement, otherwise you lose your laptop for a week while they swap it. If out of warranty, well if you can't find a replacement key, you're out $80-$100 to replace the keyboard, because backlit ones are expensive.

Asus G751 can pop right on and off with ease. Maybe we'll see the same down the road with Sager/Clevo.

But it would be nice to have easily swapped keys. I used to tear down my desktop keyboard once a year or so by popping off all the keys, washing/disinfecting them in the sink in a colander, and using a q-tip to clean out the keyboard. Worked great. Now I just don't eat at the computer since I left college years ago and could afford a real table and it's become unnecessary, other than a dust wipe every once in a while. -
I would love to take out all my keys just to do a god cleaning behind them but i do worry with this keyboard i would end up snapping off a small plastic piece and be left with having to buy an entire new keyboard.
Please Sager / Clevo, make your keys easier to remove / put back in. -

Much like heatsinks I find compressed air to work well on keyboards with stubborn bits
