I want to purchase a laptop that will support the Dell 3008 WFP

    I understand that one of the following video ATI RadeonTM HD4850, NVIDIA® GeForce® 9800GT, NVIDIA® GeForce® GXT280 and ATI RadeonTM HD4850 CrossFireX.

I also understand that Dell's Studio xps 16 and its xps 1730 will support it.

This is what Dell says is necessary to support the monitor:

I have owned the ASUS z70va for the last 3 years and I have rather liked it.

At the time I was making the decision to buy the z70va I was also considering a Sager. (It came down to the weight -- the ASUS was a bit lighter.)

I would like a 15-16" screen on the laptop as I lug it around a lot on airplanes and I want a 1689 x 1050 resolution (but if it can switch to WUXGA - 1920x1200 resolution as needed -- that would be even cooler.)

Does Sager or Clevo make a laptop that suits my needs?

    TIA

    Justitia

In that post (which is from November -- so maybe there is something new on the horizon?)

    You state:

I haven't heard the best things about Lenovo, even talking to people who own them (I used to be a big ThinkPad fan when it was IBM)

A Dell chat tech suggested the Dell XPS Studio 16 -- but looking at its specs I am thinking he was wrong.

Do you recommend any of the Clevo's you list above? Are any of them 15-16" screens?

    :)

The Dell 16 has a VGA and HDMI port. To support the 3008WFP-HC monitor's native resolution of 2560x1600, it needs to have HDMI 1.3+. The 3008WFP-HC monitor, however only has DVI port, so you would also need some kind of adapter for it.

there is no new 15-16" replacement system.

the M860TU already has the latest technology.

although it is having a minor motherboard revision right now to fully support mobile quad-core CPUs.
    - if thats not important to you, then it wont really matter.

that is pretty much it for 2009... M860TU. :)
