I recently purchased a 5793 from Xoticpc, everything worked out great initally, laptop arrived in record time, worked flawlessly (This was in April 2008), however now, a mere 4 months later the Seagate Momentus 7200.2 200GB Drive is failing (about half of the I/O to the disk causes an audible clicking noise).

Aside from the gaming use for this notebook, i also use it to perform reproductions of Vmware issues for my job, so the data is fairly time sensitive, as the clients awaiting response can get pretty uppity.

The Disapointment comes after speaking with Xotic's support via Email about an Advanced drive replacement, as the drive i have is still functioning (a few I/O errors here and there, but nothing on the sectors my work data is written to). Xoticpc's recommendation was to speak with Seagate about an advance drive replacement.

Is this the normal method of receiving higher tier RMA Services through a Sager reseller?

Call up Sager directly. They provide your warranty. Also, PM Justin for help.

Excellent, i'll try both of them. I am still waiting on more information from Seagate's technician. Aparently they want me to run some diagnostics on the drive, however since chkdsk doesn't detect any errors, i am unsure as to how accurate any of these applications are going to be when the problem is simply a mechanical issue that hasn't quite rendered the drive useless.

Not to mention the three times i tried to burn the bootable CD diagnostics program from Seagate's website i received Write errors (I am guessing it was just written to one of the "problem areas" of the drive.

The reason you were advised something like this is usually Seagate provides air service on RMA Hard Drives for Advanced Replacement. (which will provide a little faster turnaround). You can go through Sager or Seagate on the RMA and we can assist you either way if you need any help with the Advanced Replacement. :)

Chkdsk is alright, but it's a little like WEI as compared to real benchmarking apps when it comes to really diagnosing the tribulations of a hdd - the Seagate diagnostics are much, much better.

You should probably replace the drive asap. I would just buy a new drive, and image it from the old drive SOON before it dies. Then you can RMA the bad drive and when you finally get the replacement drive you can sell it on ebay. You'll probably loose $20 or so on the whole deal...

back up your files ASAP, your drive is going to fail completely soon.

I am surprised that Seagate drive is failling, they usually make quality products. I actually ordered the 7200 rpm 200Gb hard drive on my new laptop too, I hope it is just an isolated incident.

I would think that it is easier just to set up an rma with sager and have to check out the other parts of the HD while they are replacing it. Also you will have a factory trained tech do it there so there are no problems that arise when replacing it.
