    Hi,

I want to ask that if this is normal for NP 5792

I have the laptop spec of :

    - Display: 17' WSXGA+ LCD with Matte Finish Surface (1680X1050)
    - Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7700 / 4MB L2 Cache, 2.40GHz, 800MHz FSB
    - Video & Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTX Graphics with 512MB DDR3 Video Memory
    - Operating System: Genuine MS Windows® VISTA Home Premium 32/64-Bit Edition
    - Memory: Pre-Order Special - 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 2 X 2048MB
    - Primary Hard Disk Drive: 120GB 5400rpm SATA 150 Hard Drive
    - Optical Drive: 8X DVD±R/RW/4X +DL Super-Multi Drive & Software
    - Wireless Network Card: Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module
    - Bluetooth: Internal Bluetooth Module
    - Intel Robson Technology: Intel 1GB TurboMemory Module

with this, when I play 'Crysis' ver.1.1, I only get 20~30 FPS,

    the settings are

    1280X1024,

    and Everything else 'Medium' ,

    No Anti-Aliasing, No Vsync

Did I configured something wrong here?

Or is it normal for NP5792?

P.S. I did everything to make my vista 64 as clean as possible...

no shortcuts, classic style, done disk defragment, no fancy visual things, etc..

    vista sux

I get 32fps constant @1680x1050 all settings high on XP.

check your drivers I've found 169.44 to be my sweet spot.

My 8800M GTX (no overclocking) with a T7300 OC'd @ 2.2GHz (Win XP 32-bit 169.44 drivers) runs Crysis at high settings (except texture and shadow at medium) at 1280x800 and I only get 30fps average. If I turn all settings on high at 1280x800 it will drop to about 22-25fps. :( I wish I know how to OC my gpu...

Vista sucks. XP is great. Games do run better look at any benchmarks.

I am a vista hater. but XP is much nicer and easy. plus the drivers work better.

read my howto for bios overclocking.

you can dump your bios into nibitor then change the adv info device id to 0611 and hit rescan bios.

then go over to main window, change clocks to the ones you want.

then go back to adv info and change the device ID to 060C hit rescan then save to a memorystick with NVFLASH 6.3 on it.

make the mem key bootable with the HP bootable software. or you can use a cd as well.

boot to dos via the bootable mem key.

    type nvflash -b saverom

    that will backup your bios.

    now type nvflash romname

that flashed the newly changed bios with updated clocks.

there ya go. streamlined way to oc and it always works.

    OH.. MAN!!@!@!

I am (of course) getting xp right now.. to see the differnce...

    P.S. I have 167.44 driver too, lol~

I am dead serious. the more people that switch back to XP or Stay there. the longer they have to keep XP support and such.

Just like HD DVD VS BLU RAY.

    its XP VS VISTA.

Get enough people with XP Vista Will FAIL

Thanks for the instructions. However I have absolutely no experience in doing the bios stuff you mentioned (all I know about OCing gpu is using rivatuner or ntune, which both doesn't let me OC my 8800M GTX for some reason...) Would it be possible if you could send the files to me so that I can just use the HP bootable software and put them into my usb or CD and flash from it?

    Cheers. :)

read my threads there is the software posted in my 3dmark thread and i have a better howto thread all on the main page.

someone posted allready done bios files and there is the bootable program with bios files in the end of the "8800 driver that does not suck" thread. it in the first few pages of threads.

Alright I downloaded the already done bios files from that thread and has created a bootable USB (using the bootable program and the files in the folder "Win98BootFiles") with the .rom file in it. I'm not sure what to type after it boots to docs...

btw where should I download NVFLASH 6.3? I couldn't find it...

EDIT: The latest I could find is 5.63...

EDIT: I just flashed mine @ 600 1350 850 but in the game it keeps freezing. :( I've tried setting it to 1.0 or 1.05 voltages but it still freezes in-game. Maybe I should go back and lower the clocks...

Well im getting playable framerates in 1920*1200 shaders and texture on high rest medium. Thoes having low frames, you would be running it in DX10 right ? ;) Im running it in DX9-mode, as it would run under XP :)

Yeah I agree Vista is crap, I own the XPS M1730 with 8800m GTX SLI and currently running Vista. I have to dual boot because I am another Vista hater, it is bad in regards to performance and drivers compared to XP.

Actually I think my next laptop will be a Clevo, nothing wrong with my Two XPS´es but next time I will try another brand

    you torrented Crysis?

more justification needed when people say Vista will fail... can't see a huge leap in fps from Vista to XP, im not going with an older generation OS just for the few added FPS. I might be getting this laptop too, but there's no way i'm installing XP on it.

download ntune monitor. make sure your GPU is running at 500/800. you will see what i'm talking about when you run the program.

it is possible that your card is downclocked right now and thats why you are getting poor FPS.

Vista vs XP is about 5-10% FPS difference.

There is a thread somewhere on this forum all about the 5792 and 8800M GTX driver issue.

There's also a bios fix somewhere for it. Every driver aside from the stock one, 167.44 has had issues where the GPU does not perform at full speed.

Make sure this is not the case before you do other things.

1280x1024 medium, is blazing fast, should be 50+, considering that is the rate i get at 1440x900.

I just downloaded nTune and changed to XP

    um..

    I get GPU core(3D): 500.000 Mhz
    GPU memory: 799.000 Mhz

    It this good enough?

I will test out Crysis soon.

ok those are the correct speeds, you can compare your FPS to the charts in the review in my sig, your numbers should be very very close to what i have there.

if they aren't close, then something else is wrong.

I guess you guys were not around when I said that on Vista 64,which is supose to be faster than 32 bit, I could NOT run crysis all high at any resolution.
Now in XP I play Crysis all high(pay attention,my GPU is 7950GTX) except objects on medium at 1024x768 and get at least 19 fps, about 30-40 max. Which is veeeery playable, and high shadows and shaders make the game in my opinion.
A 8800M GTX which is twice as fast should be able to do all high , 1440x900 WITHOUT issues.
I posted a video on youtube, since a lot of people said the 7950GTX cannot play Crysis all High. I proved them wrong :D

    Vista x64

    1280X720 (I couldn't find 1280X800)

All 'High' except texture and shader

    Average FPS of 17~18

    To

    XP x86 (32-bit)

    1680X1050 (highest)

All 'medium' Except 'texture' and 'shader' <- high

    Average FPS of 24~25 and

    1680X1050 (highest)

    All 'medium'

    Average FPS of 45+

    WOW.... amazing result....

I'm guessing that GPU was downclocked when I was using vista x64

now I just found out this is true power of this laptop..

Thanks to people who helped me!~

P.S. I did this OEM thing too, lol~

i love vista, if yo have already stick with it, its only getting better, and its much prettier than xp. If 2-5 fps is really that important than you can search for better vista drivers and close non-essential background stuff. This vista v Xp is getting old...fast.

It`s not just Crysis. The list goes on. Gta San Andreas, Heroes 5, Timeshift, Source Games, painkiller,The Witcher, Hellgate London,Unreal Tournament 3...
All of these games increased my fps by at least 15%, somethimes 25%. VERIFIED.
I love Vista`s looks and features, but gaming wise is a an utter crap compared to XP.
Maybe it will get better as XP did versus 98/ME/2000 . But I doubt it.
MS screwed up bad on this OS.

I get between 30-35 fps in Vista for Crysis @1024x768, all high DX10 which is very playable, if your not to bothered about a lower resolution and this was after I installed service pack 1.

Vista is a very good OS. I use it for work and I can tell you that is much more stable and faster then XP in a multicore environment. It handles threading much better and processes run faster.

So what is the killer when gaming you ask?

Vista is slower in handling driver requests (higher DPC latency, check my thread about stuttering). This inspite of getting better scores for instance in 3dMark06 (but in this case we are not gaming are we?). While gaming you are pushing for video card drivers, USB port drivers (Mouse, Game Pad) and audio drivers all at the same time. In this case in comparison with XP, Vista "sux" for performance.

I can only imagine if Microsoft and device manufacturers sorted Vista to be as as fast as XP in handling drivers you would for sure notice that you would get faster gaming in Vista. That is the thing that is holding back this OS.

    Trance

But I was talking about choosing an OS from the perspective of a 8800M GTX notebook (like the one I'll be getting)... so (except for Crysis) it won't matter what OS you use, since you'll still play maxed out, and very well at that! :) So XP till you finish Crysis, then back to Vista and remain that way.... :D

truly it wont matter in crysis either, use vista, go to the vista tweaks in this FORUM and disable the many added advantages vista gives u because you dont need it. Then you can:
    (i) play in your desired OS
(ii) enjoy the look of Vista ( and as we all care SO MUCH about visuals this is a must.. :))
(iii) use dx10 in games that utilize it well ( Gears of war, lost planet, assassins creed)
(iiii) not having to worry about dual-boot
(iiiii) play the game with NO NOTICEABLE difference, unless you use 174 drivers which give Vista a nice fps increase in many games that use dx10 options.

Vista is shortly behind XP in the driver category, and xp has been around for 6 -7 years. In 6 months all will be fine, spare yourself the time and just use vista, especiallay if you are going to game with a HIGH-END dx10 card such as the 8800M!

Vista's still quite new, so I reckon it will be kicking XP's ... before too long. Service pack 1 has already improved performance, so it can only get better with future updates.

You'll get no argument out of me on that point, except for that bit about "before too long." It's already been "too long" for Vista. SP1 did indeed improve Vista's performance ... over its old performance ... nonetheless, it still lags behind XP. At this rate, Vista is unlikely to surpass XP to any significant degree until Windows 7 is released, which just makes Vista irrelevant. Unfortunately, for all intents and purposes, Vista is just a gaudied up ME, take 2.
