I first visited this websight back in 2005 when i bought a HP ZV6000. I belive this is the same websight anyway. (it was called by a differant ULR back then.)

The info i found with fellow ZV6000 owners back then helped me to max out that laptop to 2 gig of ram, a 7200 rpm drive, And a FX-57 2.8 gig AMD.

    I loved it.

    That was stolen 10/12 2007.

reported it to police/ HP/ And the sprint evdo Rev A card to sprint to turn it off so the theif can't use it.

Cops said....it's gone. little hope of recovery.

I work 100 miles away from my home town, And the laptop was my connection to the world when i was done working for the day. I stay for free at an old Buliding the boss owns , In the old office space.

    Lessons learned, Yes.

I have had two weeks off of work here lately, And i found out through a friend that the laptop may be covered by my home owners policy.

Sure enough....It was! Not just covered, but replacement coverage.

The check is in the mail. But now the next step. What to buy now?

I of course when back to HP. and there websight first, as i was very happy with the ZV6000. But any computer i would be happy with today was $2500.00 !!!!!!

So i though of buliding a desktop for the home away from home with the insurance money. but that would be hard to move so the theif could not get it...

Then i looked at shuttle systems. But the same thing, Cords to plug/unplug Wearing out over time. Not bulit to be moved alot.

Then i found my old friend...This websight.

This websight has helped me alot this last week, And helped me deside on the answer.

A litle more than i wanted to spend, But i hope to be very happy with:

    A Clevo D901C

After looking at ALL the retailers, The BBB Rateing, There years in Busniess. I chose RJtech to order from.

The main thing after i desided to buy the Clevo, Was what options to include at the bulid stage, and what i can update later as there's money avalable.

Again, many of your posts here helped ALOT.

System spec's at the order stage.

    Clevo D901C
17 WSXGA Glossy (i'm 50, Old Eyes need A bit bigger text.)
    Dual 8700M video cards 512M

2Gig DDR 800 (Two one gig sticks)

Very close to 3K Delivered. Ordered Yesterday. I tried to order everything i could that i can not Easly Upgrade right now, And will Get the drive bays filled in the future, And upgrage the processor to a 3 gig Quad when the prices moderate in the future.

    Welcome to the NBR forums.

glad that you are getting such a nice notebook replacement. :)

You can just get the Q6600 over the E6850... its subjective though.

Most games take advantage of dual core... but the new games coming out are definitely utilizing more threads for physics calculations and rendering.

Also, I recommend to check out XoticPC... they will price match as well. :)

    Thank You

With the upcomming Crysis Release, Yup it may be the Quad will do a bit better. But for now i think that the 3.0 clock will kick the quads butt in this laptop. if the CPU is a bottleneck at all for gameing.

I did look at Xotic, But RJtec had more options in there configure the notebook section than xotic did.
No WSXGA glossy display option,( in there Bulid options Webpage) Only low end (matte) or high end screen.

Going with the high end screen, The bulit was a bit north of 100 bucks more.

I do see that the Rep from Xotic does post here, and that kind of customer support is rare in this day and age. So i know he may read this post and hopefully learn from my shopping experance.

For Crysis and UT3 (the next-gen FPS games).... then YES, they are CPU intensive... I have tested that theory on a mid-range gaming desktop with an OC'able 1.8GHz CPU. Gained about 25-35% by OC'ing it to 2.6Ghz.

it will be intresting to see in the future.

I will be happy to bench the lappy when the games are out and the laptop is in my hands.

I know there's a few here with a simler setup as i bought, but with the Q6600 instead.

    Sounds like fun!
