If that were true then that'd be pretty weird. A self destructing driver.
But with me it works just fine and I've rebooted dozens of times already.

Well, I played just two but I ran all 3DMark's and Heaven and Furnark to bench the poopie out of this driver. It's pretty good and it keeps doing what it's supposed to, switch and perform.

Everything worked fine for me, too, especially at first... but eventually games started crashing.

How is that possible? I don't mean to sound sarcastic..but I'm just wondering how; if a driver's working fine..can just induce crashes after two reboots. If anything, it should crash just after the first reboot.

I went to 12.11 beta8. I could not stand this black screen issue any longer. Literally every time I restart, it comes back.

I'll be completely honest. I don't know. I never noticed how many reboots. Some said one, some said two, but for me I didn't notice until a few days later. Lol. I know it's crazy but the timing was too perfect (unfortunately) and I never had a chance to play again since right after installation. The night I had a big DOTA 2 game with friends, suddenly things crashed. I tried EVERY game I had and nothing would go past the launch screen any more. I tried the 12.11P with the new Intel and the old Intel, neither worked. I tried the beta 8 while the old Intel drivers were installed and it worked. I quickly uninstalled the old Intel drivers and installed the new one and it still worked. I just continued gaming that night and never looked back. I'm just checking these threads in case anyone had anything new I might need to know about.

So does anyone have any advice for installing either the beta 8 or 12.11p Enduro drivers on Windows 8? I've tried multiple different combinations and installation orders with no luck. Every time I am installing the AMD drivers and it asks if it's ok to trust software from AMD/ATI, the screen flicks off an on a few times and then crashes. This happens every time with whatever combination of Intel/AMD drivers I could find. I've even resorted to doing clean installs of Windows after every failure but that hasn't worked yet. However, I have not tried any registry editing, driver fusion, or the likes because of doing clean installs. It's so frustrating because I can't even get past the driver installation. Any advice?

    Hello,

I've been having same issues like may people here and somewhat I feel that solution I found might have just solved it.
I no longer getting any BSODS upon starting computer, and in fact things just got much better with Skyrim, where flickering had been causing me a lot of annoyances.
    I'm running Windows 7 64bit.

    What I did was:
    Uninstall 7970M 12.11p drivers
Run Driver Sweeper in safe mode.

    Afterwards:
    Install 12.6 Mobility drivers
    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/12-6_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe
and then, on top of that, after restarting computer and such install said 7970M 12.11p drivers (like I did)
    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/other/AMD_Catalyst_Enduro_9.01.exe

That's it. To mention I chose custom install and unticked Amd app SDK during both installations and had no nags so far, and somewhat I believe I won't be getting anymore BSODS for that GPU behaves differently, no more stupid errors like no AMD hardware detected and screen flickering after first reboot.

    Hope it helps.

Edit: Just did couple of shutdown-boot, reboot-boot and got no BSODS at all, which were very very frequent in my case. Also scored my top mark in 3dmark11 6615.
I'm definitely not touching anything before WHQL drivers come out.

Well... Since problems start with second restart, how about hibernation? This works for me. Every driver gave me issues but this one has temps. I'm monitoring my thermal pastes performance (right now below 80 while gaming, 10C difference.) so I need them.

Man... Software issues are always fixable. For example: 12.11 fixed utilization. Besides, there is no any REAL performance difference. But it's your money. Go ahead and waste it if you want.

I'm still mulling it over and I'm getting a decent discount if I do switch. I'm just frustrated that I have a nice gaming system that I can't game on. I got this computer this summer and due to working a ton, I rarely was able to game on it. When I did I could deal with the Enduro issues. But then I let a new HD 4000 driver sneak past me in a Windows update and all hell broke loose. The 7970m would not work and no matter what I tried, I could only use the HD 4000 graphics, and even then the system was unstable. I upgraded to Windows 8 and did multiple clean installations with multiple combinations of driver versions and installation orders to no avail. I flashed the most current BIOS/EC as well. I have no idea why my 7970m isn't working and if I knew how to fix it of course I wouldn't swap it out for the 680m. Maybe you feel like it's a waste of money, but I'm sick of dealing with these software issues and have lost the patience. I'm willing to pay the $200 to know that when I do get time off to enjoy gaming, I'll be able to use my machine for what it's designed for.

Great, tried installing the 12.11P driver 3 times already. "Catalyst Control Center cannot be started, there are no setting to be configured" or something like that.
I have way too much work to waste time on this . Not a single game works, even Windows Aero doesn't work. I'm stuck with a 2000 dollar notepad and command prompt machine.

Actually when I think about it, I'l try one of the old drivers again.

I'm staying with the stock drivers until we get stable drivers, as I don't want to risk messing up my system at the moment (I currently don't have the time to troubleshoot). Stock drivers work decently for most games, and at least you can use your machine for more than notepad work :D.

Yeah, wasted some more time clearing the registry and every possible trace of an AMD driver. Result? Catalyst Control Center cannot be started. Now I'm back to the stock drivers and can finally get on with more important tasks.
I really hope AMD realeases something more stable, as I currently don't have time to troubleshoot driver problems for hours as well.

Misterhobbs, I would understand if 12.11P doesn't work for you, but the 12.11 betas should be installing fine. If beta8 really isn't installing cleanly no matter what, you may have a faulty card. Do stock drivers still work?

Hey guys! Do any of you experience underutilization when OCed? What's weird is that my GPU is always around 80-90% at stock when playing BL2 on ultra (hovering between 45-60fps). But when OCed to 1000/1400, my gpu hovers around (40-60%) which gives me around 30-50fps. Was expecting steady 60fps when OCed. :( am I the only 1 experiencing this?

I did register lower GPU usage overclocked, but my FPS were still better:

    12.11p drivers:

    2012-11-17 08:12:25 - Borderlands2 (all ultra, physix low)
    Frames: 12442 - Time: 180000ms - Avg: 69.122 - Min: 43 - Max: 87

    2012-11-17 08:20:42 - Borderlands2 (OC 950/1450)
    Frames: 13612 - Time: 180000ms - Avg: 75.622 - Min: 42 - Max: 98

i cannot overclock over 950/1450 btw, i get BSOD

Could it be my clocks are not stable?
I've just repasted my 7970m, however, I removed the black plastic covering on the chip since there was alot of excess thermal paste underneath it. Could the removal of that black covering affected my gpu performance.

**BTW thanks for the swift reply. Much Appreciated

So I followed all the steps in the guide on a clean windows install with no other VGA drivers, when i try to open ccc (through right-click menu) it says

I remember having the same/a similar problem back when i just got the computer but i do not remember how i fixed it. Also the graphics card is constantly on max speed when it should be off.

i had this issue today but fixed it by simply following this suggestion:

    so, again
    uninstall intel/amd
    reboot
install latest intel hd 4000 drivers
    reboot
    install latest amd driver
    reboot
    $

no need to mess with c:\windows\assembly, messing with regedit, deleting folders or driver sweepers or whatever.
Sleeping Dogs with HD texture pack is really smooth so far. what's a good way to check FPS?

    Have you tried this method?

1). Go to Programs and Features and do express uninstall of AMD Catalyst. Then uninstall your Intel drivers. Don't reboot.

2). Run ATiMan Uninstaller. Select A for Automatic. ATiMan Uninstaller will restart/reboot by itself.

3). At reboot, ATiMan Uninstaller will continue, press C for continue.

4). Once you are at desktop and ATiMan finished, run Driver Fusion. Analyze and Delete for both Intel Graphics and AMD Graphics.

5). Run CCleaner registry. Run it until it finds nothing.

    6). Reboot

    7). Install Intel Drivers. Reboot.

    8). Install AMD drivers. Reboot.

If you want to run Afterburner.

    1). Regedit. Look for EnableULPS_NA. Change 1 to 0.

2). Download and install: Download MSI AB Patch.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

    3). Restart and have fun.

The next driver might be WHQL. Beta 9 was supposed to come with AC3 performance improvements, but its been quite a while since beta 8 and they might have gone straight for the WHQL. There is no guarantee that the next WHQL will be more stable for the 7970m users, and they might still keep the Enduro performance driver separate from the official driver.

I followed all of your steps and am still having issues with games not booting up. I keep getting a black screen when I try to play WoW or planetside 2. I reboot my PC then they work fine, I shut down at night and the next day they don't work again. Rebooting seems to sometimes fix it or reinstalling the driver sometimes fixes it, but it keeps going back to not working the next time I boot up... I installed the intel drivers as well.

The first time I uninstalled catalyst -> uninstalled intel -> installed catalyst -> installed intel and had the issue occur. Second time I uninstalled catalyst, uninstalled intel, installed intel, then installed nvidia and have had the issue as well.

yeah just google them, they're all free programs. this method i posted will literally NUKE all of your gpu drivers so you can get a fresh install nearly 99.9% of the time. It worked for me when my GPU drivers were glitched when i jumped from 12.7 beta to 12.11 beta lol...

Alright, i googled them and heard that they can potentially mess up your PC. I'm not super tech savvy so I'm kind of worried about that... I tried reinstalled my drivers once again and I'm still getting the same issue, after 2 restarts the drivers stop working and I have to reinstall.

that's only if you don't follow those directions EXACTLY... I'm not very tech savvy either and I did it no problems... It's like modding your xbox or fixing the RROD by urself. At first it's like OH SNAP IMA FUDGE UP, but once you're done it's super easy and simple to do!

Alright, I did all of the steps exactly as they were laid out. Didn't have any problems however the issue is still occuring. After doing what you said the computer worked fine and loaded games fine as it did whenever I cleanly installed the drivers, but after turning my computer off last night and trying to start a game this morning, it is once again not working. I Get a black screen, I can see the cursor for the game, but cannot see anything else. I control alt delete and it says the program is not responding.

TBH I don't give a **** about the drivers anymore I just want this **** to stop... Is there a way for me to just install an older driver that isn't completely broken? I really don't want to have to reformat because its a 4 hour drive for me to go get my discs and get back...

Yes. Go to Sager or Clevo's website and download the drivers that they have for the 7970M. Then uninstall whatever drivers you have, reboot in safe mode, and run Driver Fusion. Then reboot into normal mode and run the installer from Sager/Clevo. You'll be back to stock drivers, which have worked fine (if not perfectly) for me.

I've been installing the intel drivers and that has not helped. I uninstall AMD, the uninstall intel, then reboot, then install intel, reboot, install amd, reboot, and that has not worked. I've tried it multiple times. I haven't tried doing it in safe mode does that really make a difference? I have no idea how to use device manager to uninstall/install drivers either and that was mentioned in the post you linked?

Would appreciate any help you can give.

If your setup is really screwed up follow the second set of instructions (but use 12.11 beta11 instead). Yes, system restoring (step 1) may be necessary, but try the process first without step 1.

Safe mode does indeed help. Type msconfig into the start search bar, click on msconfig, go to the boot tab, and select "safe mode" under boot options. Also, find device manager the same way in the search bar, and go to the display adapter drop down. You won't need to use device manager, though.

Am I the only one remembers raping F8 button while starting for safe mode? Why do that when there's an easier way to do exact same thing? That's for always booting with safe mode.

And, safe mode is not for help. It's essential. You can't do that w/o safe mode.

    1)Uninstall both drivers
    2)Boot using safe mode
3)Delete every single AMD/ATI folders/files no matter where they are, what they are
    4)Reboot
    5)???
    6)Profit

I actually cannot recommend installing any particular version, but it is important to have a package of the Intel HD 4000 display drivers installed. Because the Sager/Clevo drivers have the Intel drivers integrated in the whole package along with the original 7970M driver, I still recommend reinstalling Intel display drivers separately if you upgrade to one of AMD's drivers, such as 12.11P or 12.11 beta. AMD has not recommended a specific version for use with the 12.11 drivers, but I will send them a message about it soon. Performance should not differ greatly as you will be gaming with the 7970M driver engaged, but the newer Intel drivers may be more stable and may improve HD 4000 performance somewhat, and that could be beneficial here and there.

Tapping F8 doesn't work for me, so I use msconfig. Also, for uninstalling/installing drivers, I never use safe mode and everything goes fine. I use safe mode for Driver Fusion, if I ever need it.

I'm not sure what the PX Profile. If that is on the Sager disc contact Sager and if it is with AMD contact them for help.

Vlps, 12.11P should be 9.010.0. 12.11 beta 8 and beta11 are 9.010.8.0 (though it reads 9.10.8.0 in my device manager).

I just tried installing 12.11P it worked but.. The GPU clock and memory speed stay idle on 300/150 and don't rise while lunching any app. Now I've uninstalled the drivers and installed 12.9 but the problem is still here. GPU clock doesn't rise up. OC is also unresponsive! What should I do?

I just got this N9150 from Xoticpc.com a few days ago and I upgraded to Windows 8 not knowing there was an issue with the AMD 7970m and the Intel 4000. I haven't tried all the supposed fixes but I did uninstall the stock and install the latest Intel and AMD beta drivers to no luck. Anytime I play a game I can only get medium or so settings without any game lagging because I think my cards aren't switching and it's staying on the Intel 4000. The reason I suspect this is because in Shogun Total War 2 it says what your graphics card in use is in the options. What program are you guys running to see which graphics card is running and also the GPU clock and memory speeds? Thanks.
