Screen randomly turns off when the laptop has any kind of load.
2 seconds after starting Furmark burn-in at 800 resolution, screen turns off.
GPU temps idle around 60-65 on the ATI 5870.
I just had the GPU fan replaced - shouldn't be the cause though... any ideas?
Just to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong:
I'm using Arctic Silver as thermal grease.
I cleaned the GPU again with the two liquids they provide to clean off the old thermal grease.
I applied a pea-sized amount to the gpu then spread it all over using a credit card.
Am I doing something wrong here?
I've tried googling endlessly and can't find a solution. The GPU temps are showing as 50, 120, 110 (if not more).
I cannot open anything GPU intensive - the laptop screen turns off while the laptop continues to be on, the GPU fan slowly decreases. Laptop does not turn off.
Also, if I try underclocking the GPU, it freezes up.
Any ideas? I live in Canada unfortunately so can't send it back to sager (and warranty is up too!). I had a faulty GPU back when the warranty was on and had it replaced but its still pretty problematic.
Fan works fine, usually at full blast though (GPU fan).
This is pretty frustrating (ahhhhhh)

Heu...I think you're doing something really dangerous for your card...
These temp are way to high of normal temperature...60-65 idle temp...it's 25C° hotter than normal...i think that you did something wrong with your thermal re-pasting...maybe you ve put too much paste...
But i m sure that you have shut down issues because of heat problem!
Try again to re-paste it!
(Youtube has good video about it) -
Thanks for the reply.
I unforunately don't have a screwdriver/paste/cleaner etc. with me since I'm at my sister's appt.
Hmmm. I might send it in to a local repair shop or something to have it done then, might as well get it professionally done (better than me pasting it).
I don't really know if its the paste though since it was working for a bit - I had the GPU fan replaced and since then its been acting up but the fan itself is totally fine. -
Does anyone else notice the 112*C load temp there on GPUz?! O_O
Yup, repasting job failed. O.O -
^ it was once at 192*C and 150*C.
Yikes. -
It could be that the GPU heatsink is not sitting flush with the GPU die leaving a gap that paste can't solve. If you remove the heatsink again, check the thermal paste imprint on the heatsink to see if proper contact was made or not.
It is quite possible that those high 112C temps have killed the GPU already though. -
oh wow, it could definitely be permanently damaged or melted -

Not to try to accuse you of anything but did you overclock it too high at one point? I see you have MSI afterburner installed. If clocks were adjusted to too high numbers there could have been permanent damage done to the GPU especially if you've hit 192C in the past. If thats the case you really can't do anything except get a new GPU.
ATI 5870 on NP8690 - GPU shuts down on load?
