It actually reports it correctly as 6970M/6990M, you have to change the width of the column to see the rest of the text.

Alright so my room temperature has dropped quite a bit sense the weather has gone back to normal where I live so I thought I'd re-post my temperatures again because they changed quite a bit. My room temperature is about 66-67C and these temperatures are with my NZXT Cyro notebook cooler.

BF:BC 2: 79-80C this is my high temperature
    3D Mark Vantage: 76-77C
Oblivion: 62-65C is this even possible?

You can see my before temperatures a few pages earlier and Oblivion was my biggest change.

Also on a side note, many people said that you couldn't play games while your laptop isn't plugged. Well I was just playing Oblivion(Yes it's an older game and not the most demanding but still) and forgot to plug my notebook in and didn't even notice that it wasn't performance wise. It probably eats the battery up really fast but still.

Dear god, do you live in death valley or something?

your computer would be drawing something like 90wH from the battery during the most intensive gaming without low power modes... which makes it pointless to play intensive games.

Good to hear. There is NO reason you should have higher than what is considerd the normal range. In Vantage benchiing it should not go over 90C if your room temp is 22 to 24 C. :)

This is the same laptop that was giving the 97-102C temps yesterday! You know what the difference is? My friend put the laptop on a table with a rug on it. Since I was logged in remotely, I never saw that!! Now the laptop is placed on top of the box it came in and it has made a difference of about 12-17C!

    Machine: Malibal Satori (Clevo P170HM)
    i7-2760, 16GB RAM, Samsung 256GB SSD + 750GB 7200rpm HD, BD-R. IC Diamond thermal paste.

    Using Cooler Master NotePal U3

Card settings: 740mhz / 1000mhz (normal max Overdrive setting)

    Temps from HWMonitor

    Idle: 40-42C
    Vantage: 75C
    3DMark 11: 74C
    The Witcher 2: 80C

The Witcher 2 really pushes the card. Here, I'm running it at 1080p with almost everything except AA and Ubersampling on. I'm really pleased with these temps!

How is the heat for you guys in the P150HM chassis? I'm trying to decide between a 6990 and a 580. The heat in my current Dell XPS16 (gross, right?) gets pretty unbearably scary. I don't want to constantly have to worry about GPU heat.

One thing to keep in mind is these new GPU's, the 6990M and the 580M can handle the high 80C's and even 90C while doing intense gaming and such for long periods.

If you are planning long periods of such, ICD thermal compound would be a good choice.

The P150HM/8150 have an excellent cooling system in place for a 15' chassis. :)

Though I'm working with the P170, I'd second the thermal compound recommendation. From the looks of it, my laptop is running a lot cooler than many others', which may be because they did a great job applying the paste. Of course, a cooling pad helps, too!

For whatever reason, consumer brand laptops just get ungodly hot, even if they're designed for gaming. I honestly don't know what Dell does to those things.

They use them as beer platters, and stuff. That is what they call QCing their computers. They test them... OUTSIDE the box and normal usage.

I put AS5 on my 6990M. It idles 45-50C. The highest it's reached after 1-2 hours of SCII or BC2 is 81C.

Side note, what programs have you guys been using to undervolt it? The voltage is always locked in all the programs I've tried, Afterburner, Trixx, ATI Tool, etc. Thanks.

Thanks larry! Does the chassis make your hands a bit sweaty when it's hitting those high temps?

Now I just gotta wait a couple more months to get my hands dirty with one of these bad boys.

    Nope.

I can't feel the heat anywhere around where I touch.

The heat mostly resides in the back of the screen and in the underside near the vents.

It's crisp cool to the touch on the keyboard, palmrest, etc.

If I were to order an NP8170 from XoticPC, would there be any warranty issues if I repaste the card myself if the need arises?

Im very happy with my temps now that I read what people have been getting.

Idle: 38-41 (depends on room temp)
Starcraft 2: 70-76 (depends on room temp)

Im guessing my Arctic MX-2 is responsible for these perfect temps. The highest I've ever seen after hours of Marine Arena, Desert Strike (all on Extreme, 1080p) is 78'C. Its cooler than my previous Acer with GT-540M where I was getting 82'C on medium settings!!!

How easy is it to remove the 6990M to reapply your own thermal paste? I'm planning to get a 5180 with a 6990M, and I have my own AS5 lying around, but if it's a lot of work, I'm considering having ICD7 added to my configuration.

I also read in an older post that some users were adding copper shims to close the space between their GPU and their heatsink, but it may have been for older clevo models... Is that still an issue, or was than an isolated issue?

No need to remove just take the heatsinks off. And doing that required a normal and a tiny philips screwdriver.

Yes these Clevo / Sager machines are much easier to work on than the Dell machines.

In fact they may be the most user upgradeable machines on the market today! :)

Hi guys, I have seen as high as 92c with my new system running world of tanks. I did reapply some AS5 and my temps are down to 84-87 max. I didn notice my fans don't seem to stay constant. They are more or less oscilating even though I am using the FN+1 command. Any thoughts?

You'll have to update through a bootable dos flash drive or burned CD. It depends on your retailer and how the files are provided.

USB drive will be fine. I usually burn the image files to a CD and boot to it.

Many that have a Sager branded machine do it the CD way. :)

This is normal to an extent. Most people report the stuttering to be less pronounced with FN+1 and the machine under full load compared to at idle.

Hey guys I have had a CLevo with a 6990m card for 2 months now and I get worried when I see my temperatures in idle as well as when I play Skyrim.

My current temp in idle is:

    72C

    In skyrim:

    89-102C

Should I send it back to the retailer and ask them to fix this? I'm going to try and clean the outtakes to see if that helps.

Also where can I download the latest bios and how do I install it? A link or something would be really nice.

    Thanks in advance!

The idle temps don't seem particularly high, but if you're going above 100C under load, that's definitely something to worry about. Are you using stock paste or an upgraded kind? Are you gaming on a hard level surface? You can raise the back end of the laptop and/or try repasting yourself before you send it in if you want.

For the bios, if you have a Clevo branded model (NOT a Sager), you can use the link below for updates:
