Since 460m is more expensive than 5870 and offers less performance, and since 470m is oh so much more expensive than 460m and offers slightly more performance than 5870, the logical question is why don't we get the option for crossfire 5870 in the x7200, and if we will, when ?

A 5870 crossfire in x7200 will offer better performance than 460m sli at a lower price.

Another question is, can't we get a x7200 with everything we want, BUT the gpu, and get a 5870 our(my)selves(self), and stick them inside to create the crossfire setup ?

Or is there a need for a special bios to support the crossfire solution ? I know the desktop LGA 1366 supports both sli and crossfire, why shouldn the x7200 behave in the same way ?

you can indeed get barebones notebooks.. usually they come with one video card standard.. but you could haggle with them to give you no card.. if that's what you want.

i don't think that ati cards are supported in the x7200 as of now. the reason i believe this to be true.. is that they aren't offered.

Ati video card are not offered because they don't want the x7200 to rivalise the x8100 as of now is the only laptop that offer crossfire at Clevo

I will speculate that the x7200 will receive Mobility 6000 in Crossfire.

Interesting find. Im gonna wait until the begining of december, and if then there still isn\t gonna be an option for ati on the x7200 ill go with the 460m sli. 470 is way to expensive for what it provides.

That's why the 5870 crossfire seems like a good solution, more performance than 460m sli and at a lower price. Who wouldn\t want that ?

A big problem is the cooling. I have used a modified X8100 cooler in my D900F.

Barebone definition includes at least one GPU.
Barebone with no GPU is sometimes called System Builder Edition as you can see on Eurocom eBay site:
Clevo X7200 System Builder Edition - eBay (item 110594951879 end time Nov-04-10 10:28:27 PDT)

They just changed the actual System Builder Edition (SBE) auction without any GPU that was for 1200$ a few days ago with this pseudo-SBE for 2000$ = 1200$(SBE) + 480M GTX (800$).
If you are sceptic about this, look at their x8100 and D900F SBE offerings, they have no GPU.

I am sure you can ask them the real SBE without the 480M for 1200$.
