I pulled my 5720 off eBay because I'm looking into upgrading it to the 7900GTX and Core Duo. It'll require a new mobo, but it's definitely possible. I'll let you know the costs as soon as I get the info.

Looks to be an expensive upgrade Jack; sure the upgrade is worth it? We'll definitely be interested in knowing how you make out though.

    Chaz!

Nice to chat again! I'm deciding over the upgrade vs. trying to sell my 5720 and then buying an SFF w/AMD + 7900GTX, which prices out at about $2000. I listed my 5720 at $1600 for over six days and got no bids. That kinda surprised me, so I'm checking on the pros/cons of upgrading.

If the total cost is less than $1000 I'll probably upgrade after getting the Asus in my sig. Upgrading would make the 5720 even more powerful, save me the time & hassle of selling it and then buying a desktop, and I'd still have a mobile graphics powerhouse should I ever need it for work. If I go with a desktop, even an SFF, it'd be stuck at home all the time.

    Decisions, decisions... :p

Great to see you around Jack. Is that a V6VA you are getting or a V6J? ;)

Are you noticing any limitations with your Pentium M and/or Go7800GTX? I plan to keep my notebook for as long as it is fast . . I'm banking on getting Windows Vista preinstalled on my next noteboook; over the last couple of years I've always opened the box and booted to XP. Time for a change. ;) And of course, I'll have a dual-core processor and a next-gen video card to compliment Vista as well.

I'm actually torn between the V6Va and V6J. I like the Core Duo + Go 7400 in the J, but the Va's IPS screen is to die for. The price difference is only $100, so that's not an issue. I'm leaning toward the Va because of its awesome screen.

As for my 5720, I'm seeing some lag when I run several apps at once. The Core Duo is supposed to be good at multi-tasking. I want to be able to run Vista, too, when its released. The jump from 7800 to 7900 isn't as high a priority, but if I upgrade I might as well do it all at the same time.

That's a tough decision . . V6J vs. V6VA. Better screen + video vs. Core Duo and better system performance. I'd go for a Core Duo right now, regardless. That's going to come in handy in the future.
