Anyone knows if ATI cards will fit in a NP5797 (m570tu) laptop?

They will fit but they will not boot. There is no bios support at all for ATI cards on clevo MXM 2.1 laptops.

actually the m570 tu supports the 4850 and the 4870 but clevo never include that option to build.

    the bios supports it.

YEs, the 0.19 BIOS which I opened some time ago had the ATI 3870M, 4850M and 4870M as "supported" products.

But as far as I know, no one has tried to put any of these cards in a M570TU to see that they work for certain.

Even if it made POST, the Nvidia tailored heatsink would be totally inadequate.

Are you kidding? :p Its a piece of copper! we all know how to modify pieces of metal better than we do encrypted BIOS dont we?

Does it really support ATI cards? I'm still having a hard time believing this. Maybe there is no compatible VBIOS?
I was pretty sure someone had tried it.

Only the M570TU has those cards in its BIOS. The M860TU does not.

In M86 BIOS there are 3850 3870 strings. Tried a 4850 before but no post.

I wasn't asking about the m86, as this thread title says, its the np5797/m570tu. I do have an m570tu along with my m860tu just haven't been using it.

I just want to see some screenshots and drivers installed.

Those have only ever been made for ASUS laptops that use non reversed MXM.

    So basically, c90s... anything else?

All you can buy is 4850 MXM 2.1 GDDR3. You could OC it to 4870 clocks, but I am not sure is worth it.

well its probably better than 3700m, wouldn't you say?

im not paying the +300$ premium of 55nm nvidia mxm 2.1 cards, thats for sure.

With a bit of overclocking, the 4850M should outperform the 3700M. Otherwise, at stock clocks the 3700M is better.

    Can you overvolt most 4850?

cause I just overvolted my 3700m to run at 620/1550 stable.

Its WAY too hot tho as you can imagine...

Main reason Im doing this is because nvidia cards always fail me after a while. I am sick of having to pay $400 for a new card every half year or so just because nVidia uses cheap solder that can't even handle some heat cycling.

nVidia truly is a POS company and I swear to god I will never buy anything from them again. Eventually Intel will start making high-end GPUs integrated on the CPUs, directly competing with AMD, successfully leaving nvidia in the cold.

I totally agree with you. Although nvidias cards dont have quite as bad solder anymore. ATI has been way ahead of Nvidia in terms of efficiency for a while now.

Actually the only reason I have nvidia cards is because ATI was pretty rare a few years back when all the MXM 2.1 stuff was coming out.
If only the hp 8730w had shipped with a firepro m7740 mxm 2.1 card based off the 40nm 4860 :D

Then take the plunge and get the 4850M. You can always resell it here or on ebay later. You would loose at most 100 euro.

The used to sell 4850M cards at MXM-upgrade for 350 euro. Maybe they still have some on stock.

Thats quite a bit. I'm not willing to spend it.

There was one in the marketplace for 250 euro, maybe its still there.

And a while back there was one for under 250 usd.

I need a new video card again because the one I bought just failed. Really don't want to buy nvidia again, because it's a waste of money.

Yes it works. External monitor only as of now. This card was from an MSI gt725 I think.

    ...good luck finding one...

Yes. I think it was from an MSI gt725, like I said.

This card has been around :p I believe Ayle sold it originally to someone with a gx620 or gt627 and they had the same issue, only working on external display.

Then they sold it to spaanplaat who tried it in an acer 8930g, and it didn't work at all, and he sold it to me.

But yeah... If nothing else I can get a hardware adapter and build it into the chassis, somehow.
Does anyone have some other 4850 and 4870 MXM 2.1 VBIOS?

I think we might need a vBIOS from Clevo. Only a reseller could help you with that, or maybe try to write to Clevo directly. I am sure they have one around as they did have drivers for the 4850/4870M on their website.
