as you may know, the only 15" notebooks in sight, which have 8800GTX, are the AW m15x, and the Eurocom's version of the M860TU.
im in a jam here.... i was thinking about getting the AW notbook by a friend that works in the US and can bring it here (israel) without paying 15% import tax. the thing is - he returns mid may, and it takes AW some 4-5 weeks to ship you ur notebook (in the US), from the moment you order it.
sooooo: i have to kinda decide now - do i order an AW now, or w8 to order a Eurocom.

anyway, some questions about the Eurocom:
    1) any idea of sizes? mobility is a big thing for me, and if it weighs more that 7 lb, it is too chunky, i might pass.
    2) what is the policy with the Eurocom laptops shipment time? if i order it in stroke of midnight, may 1st, when will it arrive to a person in the US?
    3) what will it cost? less or more that the m15x? as i can see in Eurocom's site right now, they seem to be more expensive :X

any other things that come to mind and you would like to share? :)

    thnx!

I ordered a D901C from Eurocom on the 28th of last month.
They were out of chassis so I waited 1 week until they got more.
They were to build my Machine last Friday and Have it Shipped out tomorrow.
I am putting everything I got on them shipping tomorrow as I don't like to wait again and again. but so-far they have been very good with emails and communicating.

Normally I suppose it takes about 5 days to be shipped out.

I am "so-far" been happy with Eurocom. If they ship my notebook to me as agreed upon tomorrow. I will be Completely happy. with their Service.

I will post my results tomorrow morning as I've emailed my Salesperson a few times and he should get back to me when he reads them first thing hopefully tomorrow morning.

In most cases I think you shouldn't have a problem with Eurocom.

    they have an excellent reputation.

Spec-wise they are comparable. Price-wise we don't know yet, though AW has a history of being pricey. Design-wise the M15x looks amazing and will probably have more options (color and lid option of skullcap) by the time the TU ships.

So to be safe, wait for the TU to launch and get a head to head comparison. Patience sucks though ;-)

    :<<<<
btw, dexgo, you said "5 days until it is shiped off". you mean, 5 days from ordering in the internet, to ripping off the package, or 5 day until its on a plane/boat/truck/mule/unicycle heading twards you?

5 days before it`s shipped, meaning 5 days to work on the thing, then they ship it.
It`s actually 3-7 bussiness days, where Weekends do NOT count as bussiness days.

    5 days until shipped.

    not 5 days to receive.

I think or hope I should have received mine by now. but I ordered on the 28th *friday, and then I called in on monday after the weekend. he said that they were out of my d901c units and they werent getting any in until thursday. so I waited until friday and he said they came in on thurs evening and then now they should be able to put together my unit on friday and have it out by monday ----->tomorrow.

So In normal curcumstances it should be out within 3-7 days. 5 days usually.

I hope to hell that by tomorrow my unit is shipped. I allready waited 10 days *6 business days* so I will be very happy if it ships tomorrow.

so in my case it was later because of lack of units. but usually they have 100's of units in stock.

I just really want my unit :D

Go with the AW. The m860tu probably won't be released till montevina is released (rumored to be early june). They probably start accepting orders starting may 1, but won't ship till ~june.

Yes but the card downclocks itself, and there's no need for restart...binary gfx is such a hassle for real-world use.

Considering that you might have problems with the card on the M15x itself (the big brother, the 8800M)...I'd say that if you want a 15" you should wait.

oh god there's serious issues with the M15X...downclocking for one (in 8800M models) which is a result of an inadequate cooling system causing the card to overheat.

I don't know how widespread this is but there are quite a number of unhappy m15X owners. Among other issues-hairline cracks in the casing, poor sound system. That's alot of problems for something that costs $2500.

If you were looking for a 8800M in 15.4 I'd wait for the Clevo version or wait till AW fixes the problems with the M15X.

ill say it again - my dead-line is mid may, for the notebook to be in the hands of somone in the US.
Unless the Eurcom 8800 model is going to cost some 2000$... then with the 15% import tax it will still be cheaper than an AW.

the real question right now - will downcolcking the GPU give as much battery juice as binary GFX? cos i wont go on a notebook with less than 2 hours of battery life on minimal settings.

Youll get the 2 hrs in low settings, and you won't see the m860tu till June. I also hear AW is infamous for wait times. Theres people in the AW forums that ordered the m15x in early feb and still haven't got it yet! So you better order it now!

yes, but june is speculation. THe website and Engadgenet say May. Futhermore, this is something worth waiting for imo. The service of AW is like a nightmare compared to like eurocom or Xotic.

Because it's probably still in R'n'D.

just because they showed prototypes at the Show doesn't mean they are ready for mass production.

they probabaly just have those samples.

dont even think about alienware.. their looks are cool.. but their quality sucks.. and GPU overheating glitches... it is more likely that you might end up with a flawed syste....and they have horrible customer service..

yes this is true. and you can't transfer warranty so if you decide to re-sell. the buyer is screwed and has no tech support or spare part availability for ever.

well i cant tell you the aprox of the eurocom but IF AW realeses the $1500 base config adding the $500 8800gtx would take it to $2k before taxes and other stuffs. And as i have been reading, clevo(and resellers) seems to be cheaper than AW, so if my logic isnt wrong it should be less than 2k with base config and 8800
