I couldn't find a precise answer to this question on the forums, sorry if this is a repeat thread![]()
I am seriously considering the np5790 sager notebook, yet there is one thing that bothers me. I know it comes equipped with the MXM-IV technology which means it should be upgradable, in theory. I thought I'd go with the 8700mgt at first (I know people usually recommend the 7950gtx) in hope of one day being able to acquire a better GPU. What are the chances of it really happening? If I am stuck with the 8700gt I might as well buy the vostro 1500 for half the price.
So, is MXM-IV futureproof? How likely is it that the new mobile cards would be too big or different in concept to actually fit?

i don't think the vostro 1500 or the 1700 has the 8700m gt graphics card?
-
no but considering the 8700gt is only 20-30% more powerful than the 8600gt, it doesn't justify in itself such a difference in price.
edit: thanks for your answer Gophn! so I should be able to upgrade to 8800m or 8700gtx when they come, that's good news. I hope the 9x00 series will work too *fingers crossed* -
note the vostro's card is GDDR2. The 8700M GT is GDDR3. That's quite significant. Factor that in and the performance difference would be in excess of 30% between the vostro's 8600M GT and 8700M GT.

the 8700 will also play future games betta than Dx9 cards cuz the way DX10 games will be optimized for DX10 cards. meaning games coming out will play betta on the 8700 eventually.
