(sorry, the title has a typo, should just be about P650rs, but i do not know how to modify the title)

    Hello!

So, I have a clevo P650rs (Eurocom sky mx5 r2, i7-6700hq+m1070) with broken dgpu, and since it is out of warranty, my reseller is charging me ~1100 USD to replace the entire motherboard since both cpu and dgpu are soldered on.

However, after some research, I managed to find a source where I can order a stock replacement P650rs (i7-6700hq+m1070) motherboard directly with half of the price. This is really tempting since I can save around ~600$ for the repair, and don't need to spend another 1500$ to buy a new laptop.

So my question is, how hard is the motherboard replacement itself? There are vely little information available on the internet...

    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply! those manuals are really helpful.

Also, just wondering, if I install a new motherboard, would it affects BIOS and such? is there anything on the software level that needs to be done, such as compatible driver for screen, harddisk?

I don't believe any special changes should be done as it's a Clevo and should work with yours. Only thing is the BIOS would be different. It is possible the motherboard you're getting from might be from a different Clevo reseller to what you have right now. Other than some cosmetic changes like boot screen logo and a few details, there won't be any other issues.

Only problem you might get is your Windows license and the mainboard has been changed even though it's still the same spec.

True, only downside is that you need to be able to remember to take the photos. If you are fully into this and first timer in disassembly of laptops, I'm pretty sure you would forget to take this ;)
