I need detailed information on the sound quality. This is a huge concern for me. Any info would be appreciated (bass, max volume, quality), etc.

I had a toshiba before my 8690, and the sound is A LOT better on the sager. Max volume isn't terribly loud, but it doesn't distort crackle. Bass is lacking but over all I would say it is pretty good. I now use a head set any way, I would recommend one over any laptop speakers.

The thing is me and the wife watch movies in bed on my current notebook, I'd like to be able to do the same with this one. Sorry if this is TMI :/

It is FINE for watching movies in bed, but please for the sake of the hardware, be careful not to block the vents with the covers!

As long as you aren't an audiophile, it should be fine. I watch a LOT of movies, and most of the time I don't feel it too lacking. As mentioned, it lacks bass and sometimes sounds tinny. But most laptop speakers are like that anyway.

Edit: I find it a little insufficient for music and games though. I like to hear the thump my shots make when using a Barrett m82. :D I usually have my laptop plugged into a 2.1 though.

Sound was not good enough for me until I used SRS Audio Sandbox software. I also watch movies in bed and I have the laptop on a cooling pad.
