So after ordering and canceling two laptops (one after the other) I finally settled on an MSI GX60. Lucky me though, a week and a half later I get an email telling me they're on backorder and won't have an update until late next week. Awesome. So after doing a lot more research, I think I'm going to change my order and get a 9150 with:

    - 15.6” Super Clear Matte Type Screen
    - 3rd Generation Intel® Ivy Bridge Core™ i7-3630QM
    - -Stock OEM Thermal Compound
    - GeForce GTX 670MX
    - No Copper Cooling Upgrade
    - 8GB - DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 SODIMMS)
    - Sager Branding
    - No mSATA SSD
    - 750GB 7200RPM [Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache]
    - Combo Dual Layer SuperMulti DVDRW/CDRW Drive
    - FREE - Bigfoot Networks Killer™ Wireless-N 1202
    - No OS

Is this a good build to you guys? The total comes out to be $1,284 which is a little over budget, but I'm ok with that. Do you guys have any recommendations or tips for a new user? I plan on reading the owners lounge when i get a chance. 400+ pages is going to take some time lol. I plan on using it for college, CAD work, gaming, etc. Specifically I want to play Guild Wars 2 and Sleeping Dogs. I like to play and try a lot of different games too, but it doesn't bother me much to not be able to play games on high

Also might seem like a dumb question, but are there any good overclocking tutorials for the 670mx? This will be my first laptop so I'm completely new to a lot of this stuff, but I'm a quick learner. I did a quick search and couldn't find any straight forward guides. I'm sure if I do some research I'll figure it out, but I don't know when I'll get a chance to do any in the next couple days.

    Thanks

I all honestly, I would tried to fork out a little extra and get the 7970m if you're going to be working with cad, as the 7970m has pretty stellar performance with auto cad, and will be great gaming wise as well making it a lot more future proof... If you cant fork out the exta cash, your build should suffice :)

Agreed, the 7970m would be a much better card for CAD, and gaming for that matter. If you can afford it, that is. It's worth the investment imo.

Yea I wanted the 7970m (why I originally ordered the GX60) but it's really not in my budget. I didn't want to spend more than $1200 but the NP9150 isn't too over budget. I was also thinking of just picking up the 7970m or 680 in about 6 months or so. Where would I be able to find just the cards being sold? I know the cards are relatively new, but a quick google search on my phone didn't find me much, just laptops with the card.

Any other recommendations with the other specs? Do you think this is pretty solid or I should switch some stuff around?

Cards can be found on some reseller websites, on these forums (members market) or on ebay.

Best deal i've found on a 7970m sold single so far is from mythlogic, you need to call or livechat them to order it but they will sell it to you. Its 420 USD plus shipping.

Beneficial to spend the extra cash now so you dont have a gtx 670mx to sell later.

I've actually been thinking about upgrading to the 675mx, instead of the 670mx. Is it worth the extra $100? The 7970m is definitely way out of budget at the moment.

It's an even trade, you are getting decent value for every dollar you are spending extra.

Placed my order earlier today and dexided to stick with the 670mx. I just received an email telling me all (stock glossy/matte) but the high gamut Matte display are on back order until the 21st. Is the $65 increase worth the High Gamut display if I'm mostly gaming and not photo editing etc.? I'd also really like to get this laptop before christmas, but if the stock matte is that much better, I can wait. I know there's that "Gamut is bad for gamers" topic that'll I'll eventually get around to reading. Is there a noticeable color difference when playing games with the gamut display? Do the workarounds do a pretty nice job of fixing any issues? If I get xotic to calibrate the screen, will that help at all, or do games still suffer the color problem?
