Hey guys, I'm about to pull the trigger on ordering one of these systems but I have a few things to ask before I finally do:
1. I've noticed that you can save $50 by selecting 4 DIMMS instead of 2 DIMMS of 8GBs of memory. Will I see a performance decrease from 4 to 2 DIMMS?
2. Is it worth getting the 95% matte gamut screen if I don't have any means of calibrating it right out of the box? I've heard all sorts of things all over the forum from being the best and most vivid laptop display ever made, to nasty reddish tints, finicky color management and wildly inaccurate colors. I value both color accuracy and vibrancy highly, so I really don't know if it's worth the effort to coax both out of the screen if I have to.

1. There isn't a noticeable performance difference (if any at all really). The reason 4 DIMM's may not be the best is if you ever plan to upgrade the amount of RAM in you machine. In that case, you'd have to swap out all the sticks rather than just add some.
2. You can calibrate the machine yourself by eye if you want to. I'd say using a color stick from a home improvement/art store should make it pretty close to accurate. (The Nvidia control panel or Windows calibration option). There are also generic calibration profiles floating around that may or may not be useful. Most of the negatives you listed are rather uncommon though. -
Thanks for the quick reply Malibal. Also, I know that your store is closed today and tomorrow, but if I order with rush processing today, could I possibly get it sometime before Saturday of next week?

2. I haven't noticed any issues at all, and in fact, there's no red tint or nasty ghosting on my screen. Actually, it's more on the blueish side on a small scale uncalibrated. If you value high color accuracy then you should buy a calibration tool. -
What's the deal w/ these calibration tools I have never needed them before (or even heard of them) Why suddenly to monitors need them?

What is IPS?

Well, I just went ahead and ordered the standard matte display. Hope it doesn't look too bad compared to the wide gamut one.

I have the standard matte screen and I have been very happy with it. All of the colors are very vibrant. If you compare them side by side you'd probably notice a difference between the two, but I'm confident you will get it and be happy with the way it looks.
