Hi, after much research and looking around and reading other people's opinions, I'm definately set for the Sager NP2090 notebook. The amount of features and power versus the price really made it stand out from other models and manufacturers. Just a few questions before I order it tomorrow:

    1. Shipping started late June, early July (or mid July) and I know demand for this model is very high. If I order it tomorrow, when do you estimate I will receive the notebook? Sorry if this is an unpredictable question, but a best estimation will be fine. I need it by mid-late August but having it earlier than that would be excellent.

    2. I am going to install Windows XP myself. Upon receiving the notebook, is the laptop already set for booting from the CD drive or will I start it up and do that myself in BIOS, then pop the XP cd in. I've reformatted before but never formatted an OS on a new PC. Just wanted to know what to expect.

    3. I hear something about WSXGA+ (or also WXGA, not sure) all shipping with matte type screen regardless of whether you selected matte or glare type due to glare type screen shortages. I am going with the WXGA, will that ship matte or glare type?

    4. I've gone with the stock 80GB 5400RPM harddrive. I don't know whether theres a huge difference between 5400RPM and 7200RPM in terms of performance and speed. Should I drop the extra $40 and go with the 80GB 7200RPM harddrive?

I believe thats all the questions I have for now. Thanks in advance.

Well , for your 3rd question, the WSXGA+ panels are currently all matte, but all the rest should be glossy.

    1) No one has a definate answer for you but probably you will recieve it by mid-late August

    2) Checking your BIOS for a boot order is very simple. A maybe 1 minute process. This is also unknown

    4) People say yes, I say not really. I like the extra space in a 5400rpm hd and am willing to wait a little bit for the loading times in games usually. So unless youre loading giant files I dont think it will concern you that much.

    1. I would think you would be getting it by mid August, but that isn't for sure. When you order, call the reseller you ordered from to find your place in line. When they do start shipping, that will help with an estimate on when you will get it.

    2. Most new bios already have the cd drive placed before the hard disk in boot order. This is needed for the OS to be installed. If it isn't, it would probably have been changed after the os is installed.

    3. Don't know, sorry.

    4. This depends on what you are doing on the system. If you are using programs like photoshop, gaming, or video editing heavily, then a 7200 rpm drive would help quite a bit.

    3) Sager is glossy, xoticpc/powernotebooks IFL90 will be matte (at first) I think.

Actually , the screens are the same for everyone since the sager is the ifl90 rebranded. Right now, all wsxga+ are looking to be matte while the others are glossy.

thanks for clearing the screen issue. i could use matte but glossy is fine.

as for the harddrive issue, i am somewhat of a gamer, which is why the 8600GT was very important to me. i think i'll chock up the extra $40 for 7200RPM. I'll ask the sales person for an opinion as well. anymore opinions here are welcomed.

also, for those of you who ordered a Sager NP2090, when did you order it and has it arrived yet?

    thanks so far

I just placed an order on the Sager 2090 on Sunday with Xoticpc. They said I should receive it before August 10. So expect it to come late July early August.

thats not too long i suppose.

now I don't know whether to get WXGA glossy or WSXGA+ matte. Matte would be more preferable but then again I don't know how glossy it will be. Are there any complaints from those of you with glossy?

Also, why don't they offer WXGA in matte?

    thanks

Well I've sorta didn't like glossy from the glare aspect, but one of my friends brought his new laptop over for some help and I noticed that the glossy screen wasn't too bad. Next to my 20.1" matte LCD, I thought the glossy had a more "true" color to it. So I guess it's all subjective. If you were to use your laptop in a highly lighted environment all the time, then the matte would be best for you.

i'll have to agree with you on that. last time when i was over at my friend's house, i checked out his Thinkpad T60 with a glossy screen. the first thing i noticed was the color, it was more rich and i guess a bit more detailed.

i'm going to be mostly using my sager np2090 for my dorm, and i doubt i will bring it outside to use, maybe airport but thats about it. i guess when im in my dorm, i'll keep the light sources behind the laptop so theres less glare.

all right, so this is the setup i've decided to go with:

15.4" WXGA "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1280x800)
    Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
    Standard Dead Pixel Policy
    Intel® Core™2 Duo T7300 2.0GHz w/4MB L2 On-die cache - 800MHz FSB
    512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 8600GT DX10
    1,024MB DDR2 667 PC2 5300 (1 SODIMM)
Combo Dual Layer SuperMulti 8X DVDRW Drive w/ Software
    80GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA 150)
Internal 4-in-1 Card Reader (SD/MMC/MS/MS PRO)
    Built in 2.0 Megapixel Camera
    Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 4965 802.11 a/g/n
    Smart Li-ion Battery (9-Cell)
    Integrated Fingerprint Reader
3 Year Labor* 1 Year Parts Warranty Lifetime Toll Free Tech Support

basically I upgraded the processor to the 2ghz model and the harddrive to the 7200rpm model. reason for 1GB is i'll be installing windows xp myself and it'll run fine and also i'll upgrade to another 1GB of RAM later on when I need it. total comes out to $1174.31.

yeah regularly without the 3% discount (or $37.69) it would be $1212 on xoticpc.com.
