    I did have a look at the 6990, but i'm more in tune with the way nvidia updates / supports drivers. Thus the 485m won out.

    You should really reconsider getting the 6990m, its a significant performance upgrade (10-15%) for the same price and the latest release of ati drivers been rock stable.

    I myself got the 6970m but from what i read they should be about the same (~idle: 45-55°C ~load: 78-85°C)

    6990m temperature after a 10min burn-in test.
