    Hi guys,

Been loving the reading around these boards and specifically in this subforum. Going to order a Clevo from Mythlogic : p150 shell - 3610 cpu - 680m is the gist of it.

Was going to get the 7970... But based of thus forum and myth BTS promo, the 680 is an easier pill to swallow. So the question is : Extended warranty or not?

I know that for " normal" electronics, the extended is a gimmick but how is it for CPUs? A 30$ insurance on a 100-200$ product that becomes obselete in 4 year is stupid.

I am asking because my last rig was an imposed model from an university program (macbook). We had to buy extra warranty on our machines. Mine was trouble free for 4 years and still going on strong, but out of the 200 students, i heard of at least 5-10 people with minor/major problems.

It boils down to about 3% per year of coverage(canada). Having a first year worry free is nice. Did i read correctly that base warranty was one year?

"But based of thus forum and myth BTS promo, the 680 is an easier pill to swallow"....so you mean that reseller promo prefer 680m rather than 7970m?

Go for the 680m if you have the extra cash and no better way to spend it. 7970m problems will be solved in the future, probably..., but there is no telling when. With stock settings the cards should be pretty much on par, with the 680m having a small advantage in some games.

Nah - the base promo is on the 7970m. The "surcharge" is 250$ to 680m, it was 380-400(?)$ before the back to school sale. Reseller had nothing to say on this yet :)

They will eventually fix the 7970m no doubt, I'd personally rather not wait.

Back to my conundrum : extra warranty or no? :)

I bought the 2 year warranty just to be on the safe side. Anything past 2 years, time to upgrade.

ive always upgrade my warranty. my m860tu is 4 years old now and the 9800GT graphics card died last year. would of been £300 for a new 260GTX graphics card but as i had the extended warranty it was replaced the same day for ziltch. extra years warranty was £70 so ill let you do the maths.
it varys from resellers but 2 years warranty is the standard now as far as i know but you have to read the small print as there are only a few that cover everything for the full 2 years.

It has been my experience that most things that go wrong happen within the first few months of owning a computer. With Mythologic, I'd pay the extra $25 for the 2 way shipping for the first year, but I wouldn't go beyond that.

Thanks guys - i'll probably go with the one year 2-way. I do agree that most probs pretty early. Now the waiting game!
