I am in the market for a 17inch Haswell gaming notebook with 780M graphics. I want this laptop to last me a good 2-3 years so I'm not willing to compromise on the video card. Considering the available options on the market, there is no perfect notebook.
    • The MSI GT70/GT60 has the best keyboard, speakers but scary stories about temps have me thinking twice.
    • The new Alienware 17 series is beyond my budget as the cheapest laptop with 780M begins at 2200.

I am open to being convinced on other options so if you feel otherwise please let me know. Also, what are people's thoughts on 15inch vs 17inch? This notebook won't be carried much and will pretty much be my desktop replacement.

With that said, I believe Sager is the only laptop with enough positives to outweigh the negatives, those being a bad trackpad and keyboard. So how does the following build look ? Its basically the stock model, but upgraded to the 72% gamut matte screen, 780M graphics, and blu-ray drive. This build costs $1950.

also check out xoticpc, prostar, power notebooks, mytlogic, lpc digital.

all these resellers sell exactly the same models and have much higher ratings and also reps on here to help you out.

ive got the previous P150EM 15" and its a brill laptop. my previous clevo is 6 years old now and still going strong and used every day.
if you are going to be lugging it around on your shoulder a lot take into account that the 17" is of course heaver and you will also have to take the psu power brick with you as well. the 15" does exactly the same but in a smaller frame.

the standard matte screen is bloody amazing and what really stands out for me. im on my second clevo now and this screen blows the previous into oblivion. very vibrant bright colours.
ive not seen the 72% gamut but cant see how it can get much better. if you are doing a lot of photography editing then the gamut is the way to go of what ive read on here.

i would also recommend a ssd instead of the standard drive. if you go for the 17" you can buy that a lot cheaper at a later stage. ssd's are much much faster on boot up and loading programs.mine takes 12 seconds and im on the forum posting.

    good luck with your decissions

Looks pretty good to me. The 15" class and 17" class - some would say that the larger chassis is more efficient at cooling. I don't have benchmarks to say yay or nay, definitively, although the cooling system itself between the two is likewise.

    My recommendations:

    • Upgrade the thermal compound if you will be putting heavy load on the system. Idle, it won't make a marginal difference, but during heavy load, it could keep the system cooler by roughly 5 degrees Celsius (that's about 41 Fahrenheit!).
    • Get a SSD - whether it be with your purchase, or down the road. They are absolutely worth the investment!
    • The stock WiFi card is usually so-so. If you want something more reliable and that will future proof you better, go with an Intel card. The Bigfoot cards are also very good in performance.

For what you want the system for, everything else looks pretty good!

I signed up for these forums just to 'bump' this, and find out if the OP bought the laptop.

I am also shopping for a Haswell, gtx780m system.
