So I am in the market for the NP9262, but I travel alot (im a med student on final rotations around the country) and I am really hard on my electronics (iphone #1 killed by automobile running it over, #2 non-iphone killed by pediatric patients, #3 ASUS W3V screen broken by psychotic patients in a fit of rage, #4 my sweet modded PSP dropped into liquid nitrogen when I wasn't looking by pediatric patient)

SO the only item I got an money back for was the original iphone as I had it insured through squaretrade.com's accidental warranty. But now I want to purchase and accidental warranty on a fully decked out NP9262 that I hope to keep for at least 3 years and it lets me continue to play Conan, Crysis, and hopefully Farcry 2.

So I was looking at PCTorque b/c they offer an accidental warranty, and I could always buy another through squaretrade (~$400 for accidental on a $3500-4000 item)

But what I want to know is what you guys think might be my best option to cover the "oh ****"s as they occur to my soon to be beloved 9262?

    Your opinion is much appreciated

An accidental damage warranty from a laptop company does not have theft coverage. The ADP policy at www.safeware.com is underwritten by an AM Best “A” rated insurance company, covers accidental damage AND theft, and can be purchased annually.

I insured my laptop via an electronics insurance plan that my insurance company offers. They charged me $2 a year for every 100 dollars that my laptop cost, so it was only $36 a year. I have statefarm, but i assume most insurance companies offer something similar. There is no deductable, and im covered for ANY damage, theft, or basically ANYTHING that can happen. Unless its damaged in a war lol.

Yes, if you can insure it with your own homeowner's or renter's policy that is great. Just be careful that it has no deductible, like NCG1589's policy.

In other words, always read the fine print and make sure you understand the terms of the policy.

In the past, I've done like NCG1589 and that's what I would do if I thought I really needed an insurance for a laptop. However, in general, I do not trust insurance companies. Their business practice seems more and more to be to take your money and then find a way to avoid fulfilling their end of the bargain when disaster occurs. ("Sir, an accident cannot cause this much damage." or "It is clearly stated in your policy that damage caused by negligence is not covered. We found you to be negligent.") I think this risk is lessened when your laptop insurance is a rider on a home owner's or renter's insurance because the stakes are higher: if they do not follow through they lose more business than if your only business with them is a laptop insurance.

Toughbook? How am I gonna play crysis on that? (answer: just like wipeclub "very very slowly")

    lol

lemur has a valid point, insurance companies are generally full of it, but I did get my iphone insured through squaretrade, and when it got ran over after falling out of my pocket while running across a street, they got me my money with minimal hassle, all i had to do was scrape the parts off the road and mail it all in to them. Yet had I not had any parts of the phone left I would have been out of luck.

Honestly, safeware might be the best option seeing the absolute rigors of my lifestyle. but pricey!!

Homeowners would be great if they didnt have a deductable somewhere around the moon. (my folks' homeowners quoted 500 deductable if theft occurred, and NO accidental coverage)

So, I am still at an impasse. And the date looms when I order my 9262! I got the money, but without a plan for insurance I am hesitant to order just yet.

Kind of wimpy for a Goonheim, eh?

Just wondering, do you know anyone who has actually dealt with them after accidentally damaging or losing a notebook? I'm wondering how well they really handle things.

    Thanks!

All we can tell you is we have never had anyone calling us to complain.

This is a 3rd party insurance policy, so people wouldn't necessarily call us if they had a problem.

You should be able to check with the insurance regulator(s) of the states they do business in; most insurance regulators will give some sort of minimal data on the companies they regulate.
