-
youdontneedtoknow Notebook Evangelist
The cover doesn't look all that black, but still congratulations and make sure to post more pictures and reviews!
-
The part on the right of touchpad is very hot. It feels very sturdy and doesn't look flashy.
-
doesnt sound good as your only just loading the operating system. i wonder what it will be like when you start gaming
-
What hard drive did you get? (capacity and speed)
-
That looks silver not black ><
-
temps again in question.
wonder whats gonna happen when the machine kicks in gaming..
but either way... tell us more!! =) -
congrat nice one waitin patiently for more upcoming goodies
-
Gratz on the new beast....
Not happy about all the heat though...can u tell us more?
Looking forward to your reviews and more pix!! -
we all want temps & some games benchmark & MORE PICTURES plz
enjoy! -
I think the reason it looks silver is there is a protective plastic covering the back of the screen's shell to protect it from scratches.

UPDATED CHECK 1ST POST
The right side next to the touchpad is extremely hot. Very uncomfortable, hard drive is 61C, normal? -
Wow, that's too hot. Looks like I can rest easy, I'm getting an Asus G50V. Don't much feel like crisping my wrists using a laptop!
-
Wow my laptop hdd goes about 55'c and that's uncomfortable to use.
What brand is it? -
Also happily stated in super-bold in his first post.
-
Oh I didn't look at the pictures.
Hitachi's are supposed to run cool... -
For those of us who aren't too sure just how hot that is... how hot do most notebooks run during normal operations?
I'm hoping you just got a lemon and that they aren't all going to be running uncomfortably hot... especially since my build is almost identicle to yours. -
Well atleast we can fry eggs on the laptop
-
Did you pick up the Intel Turbo Memory option?
-
oh no
61c thats a bit warm.
i average 42-50 max and thats on a fujitsu. -
have you gamed on it?
-
Its possibly a lemon. I mean, Chung hasn't reported anything horrible with the heat of the laptop and neither has Justin. PCMW also tells me the EDGE is running pretty cool. Lets hope for our sake that's the case. Sorry Ad@m if thats the case, but at least you have 30 days to return it if you aren't satisfied.
-
61C is definitely too hot for a HDD, my 7K160 is 35C right now.
-
why on earth would a harddrive run hot like that and just in this laptop. that makes no sense whatsoever. it must be some other component.
-
-
Yikes that is hot. I got a very similar setup /gulp
-
what's your room temperature Adam?
-
This doesn't make any sense, the HDD can't be less hot right after the benchmark than before. Perhaps something is wrong there.
-
For comparision purposes, my HDD (7k200) runs at 57C
-
-
I doubt the fans even turn on for HDD Temperature, actually... -
Room temp is 25C and I'm running wprime and hdtune right now
-
Could be an individual problem with this system.
-
Well 25 celsius ambient is pretty warm too.
-
what did he actually do to make it hot? how cool does it get in silent mode? is it loud?
I hope the newer 320gb 7200rpm drive fares a bit better. -
.
-
Actually my touchpad area is quite warm at times... since there are two HDDs right underneath it.
If you want the temps to go down, make sure to set (in Power Options) to shut off the HDD after a few minutes of idle.... and of course, use a notebook cooler.
In any case, I use an external mouse, so I do not notice anymore. -
Is the laptop pretty loud
-
-
um... you are not supposed to rest your palms down if you are typing correctly... thats not very ergonomic
... and you will leave palm grease stains if you continue to do that.
I have had my notebook for 2.5 years and those areas are never touched... mint condition. -
As for palm stains...
1) If you type correctly, your palms should not even touch or wear out that area. I play games and my palm never touches the casing. So my notebook is still mint.
2) you can get a palm gel pad (if you know you are going to rest your palm) if you want to make sure to not wear out your casing.

From: Ergonomics: Cumulative Trauma Disorders
While typing, it is best not to rest your wrists, and they should not be bent up, down, or to the side. This may be easier if the back edge of the keyboard is tilted down slightly, away from you. The knuckle, wrist, and top of forearm should form a straight line. Wrist supports or rests give you a place to rest your hands only when pausing from typing, not while you are typing (or gaming).
BAD:
GOOD:
-
No wonder people get carpal tunnel and I don't. I rest my wrists while I'm typing!

I thought those days were long behind us.
How much does the brick weigh?
