since there is no indication which type of 1600 ram will be shipped with my new sager 8170, can anyone tell me if there is a problem with adding this?

You can ask your Reseller. Sometimes they even let you pick which one if they have multiple available

I believe most Sager models ship out with Samsung 1600MHz RAM. Some other resellers tend to use Kingston instead.

You might want to check with your retailer as to the type of RAM they're using. That RAM is XTU, which although supported on the P170HM, may not get along with the RAM in your laptop if they install JEDEC 1600mhz. If your reseller says they're shipping you with XTU RAM, then it shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise, I'd shop around to find JEDEC RAM instead (Kingston HyperX is one that comes up here a lot) -
