Ok going to pull the trigger and get the new laptop specs below. I see some companies offer additional heatsinks and IC Diamond thermal pasting. My concern is heat on the CF7970m. I know the thermal paste is probably the best route but do they apply it to cpu and gpu? What about the additional heatsinks?? To me looking at the copper works inside the 9370/P370 is it really neccessary?

    Matte LED screen
    Intel 3740QM
    12 GB Ram DDR3 1600 or 1333
    Dual 7970m Crossfire
    120 GB Intel 520 SSD
    750 GB 7200 RPM SATA
Window 7 or 8 64 bit Really dont care for Metro
    Intel Ultimate N 6300 wifi :D

If you feel confident then you can ensure the best pasting job yourself.

The additional copper is not so effective unless you add vents to casing of the heatsink (voiding your warranty) and use a thermal cooling pad.

    In addition to Meakers comments,

The upgraded thermal compound being applied to both CPU/GPU will vary from who you go with. Sager resellers will all come with it applied to both as that is how Sager rolls. Going with a builder instead, you'll want to ask them directly if theirs will or not but most reputable sellers will always do this.

The copper cooling definitely doesn't make as big of a difference as IC diamond, it still helps, but not to the same extent. The CF7970 is definitely a warm combo but you shouldn't have too much trouble with heat without the copper, but every bit does help.

Thanks for the input guys. I am a firm believer that good Thermal Paste is a must. But on this particular model 9370/p370 I dont see how you could put anymore copper in it LOL!

Oh you'd be surprised at some of the mods out there. ;) Many end-users that need a gaming rig or use high-demand applications will add the ram copper heatsinks and/or apply thermal tape to allow for maximum heat draw.

But yes, I agree with Meaker and Derek; additional heatsink will help some, but the bigger cooling plus will be gained from the compound. You'll have to check with the reseller/builder on whether they add paste to both the GPU(s) and the CPU though (it's general practice to do so by default, but not by design, so ask ahead of time).
