Ok, so I think my Clevo X7200 just died
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/728401-x7200-wont-power.html
I wanted to wait until early-mid 2014 before I replaced it when I got home from deployment. Now with it dead I'm not so sure I can wait. Here are some configurations I have put together of the Sager NP9570 / Clevo P570WM. I wanted to get the Sager NP9570 / Clevo P570WM successor, or next gen. But May have to buy now. I picked the 120Hz display on all configurations because I have a glossy 90% gamut display in my X7200. I figure if the 120Hz isn't to my liking I can swap my 90% glossy display. I also went with only 8GB RAM because I have RAM in my X7200 that I can use in the NP9570 / P570WM. Same goes with HDDs/SSDs, Optical Drive HDD, and extra power adaptors.
While the RAM in my X7200 is 1333MHz, I doubt I see much differance between that and faster RAM. I know the NP9570 / P570WM is capable of SATA III, but at the moment I don't want to spend on new HDDs, the ones I have are perfectly good, have all my info, and just easier to keep and swap. The way I see it, I can get the new system and simply swap in my SSDs/HDDs in, install any new drivers, and away I go.
While I'd like to have Win 7 Ult, I already have HDDs with Win 7 Pro. The Win 7 Pro isn't tied to the Computer either. So I may be able to shave some money off the subtotal price for the systems but not purchasing an OS, and just using the HDDs I have with the OS.
Another thing I would like to hear about, is this from XOTIC PC
COPPER COOLING UPGRADE - Extra Cooling Copper Heatsinks Applied to the Heatsink/Heatpipes (XPC Service - requires shipment to XOTIC PC: will add to build time) ( + 79 )
Does this actually help with the heat from the 150WCPU?
The main reason I wanted to wait, was in hopes that the next gen system wouldn't have the CPU heat disipation issues that I've read about concerning the NP9570 / Clevo P570WM. Are the heat issues still an issue??
So any suggestions on how I should pursue? I would lean toward XOTIC PC if the Copper Cooling upgrade actually would help with the 150W heat from the CPU. Otherwise, I'm leaning toward LPC Digital in terms of customer service. I also really like the backlit chiklet keyboard that mythlogic offers.
My wish list.

I vote for Mythlogic simply because their customer support is top notch. They're the most hassle-free I've ever dealt with personally as well as for my work.
-
Thanks! I'll have to call them and see if they can put a 3970X in it for me.
I'd also like to see a pic of the stock cooling vs the Cooling upgrade by Xotic PC if anyone has one.

Thanks for that. Was wondering how an upgraded got heating could only be $70. And if that cheap, how much more effective could it actually be.
Right now off the bat it looks like LPC Digital and Power Notebooks are the cheapest, but Mythological has a great review. I'll have to PM Larry later and see if he can hook me up with a back-lit keyboard. That's one feature I missed about trading my Alienate M17x R2 for the X7200.

Good luck whichever boutique you decide to go with!
-
I'd definitely go with Mythlogic. Free monitor calibration, free IC Diamond, and great support. With such an expensive machine, I bet they'd be happy to toss in a 3970X, and even run a few benchmarks for you before sending it out.
-
Awesome guys. Thanks I'll be sending some of the resellers emails and see if they can be configured to my specs vs whats available on the site.
Ok, so now my biggest decision is whether to get the i7 2970X, or the i7 3930K. 3930K being a 130W TDP CPU genetrates less heat, allowing it to be overclocked higher and for longer sustainted periods. The 3970X seems like a huge beast of a CPU, which gets my attention, but if I can't use it to it's potiential, then there isn't much point. Most of what I do is video encoding, gaming, Folding@home, and benchmarking,
It seems like the 3930K is about as "XM" as the system can handle. Generally when getting a CPU, I tend to go with the most extreme CPU, but in this case it sounds like the 3970X is in fact a worse CPU for the system. Yet hard to resist for me lol.
Is there anyone with a 3970X that doesn't have heat issues? Given the choice, what would you go for? 3970X, or 3930K? -

Get a cheap CPU now and save for IVY-E.
-
Ivy-E will work in the system? I had heard that but I'm used to the mobile CPU world where your stuck with one generation. That's definitely a great idea. Hopefully Ivy-E offers a lower TDP.

It is a lot lower power consumption, early tests show it was practically made for this system.

Sands awesome.

I thought it might lol.

I'm inclined to give an "outfield" idea. Get the NP9570, however for the TIME being, get the cheapest CPU you can get (ie: the i7-3820). I know it's "only a quadcore", but that money you save, can be put away towards a 4930K or 4960X. With the improved (somewhat) architecture, you'll be able to use the cores more efficiently for folding@home. As far as offering the dual Power Supplies, I'm not sure what your situation is at the moment, however the reason duals are offered is because of the sheer power consumption the X79 / X99 mobo is going to need. 130w for the PSU plus 120w for the GPU plus another who knows what for the RAM, SSD(s), ODD, monitor, etc., is NOT going to play well with one 300w PSU. And I say that even though other "extreme benchers" have been able to tap upwards of 400w from the NP9570's PSU. It's better to have tons of extra headroom, than to go "oh no" when things throttle / shut off to prevent overload.
I do wonder though, why you are going with the Killer cards over Intel. Personally, every laptop that I've owned with an Intel WiFi card has given me no problems, be it in gaming or an academic environment. Also, the 7260 combines a ridiculous amount of antennae power with bluetooth (if you use such a thing). Also, as for resellers, I'm a powernotebooks guy all the way. Top flight service (I once got an email from Donald at 2am, LAS VEGAS time, ensuring me of the progress of a laptop in progress, I was floored and amazed that my small order merited such a response), and also because I'm OCD, their patience is nothing short of amazing. Granted they may not over "in-house redlining, copper-cooling chippies, etc.," but I cannot find fault in their methodologies, just a good, small, efficient, well-run, all-american company that makes this thrice-bought customer VERY happy.

I had a Killer 1103, and it worked well. I really have nothing against the Intel cards. Right now I'm using the N6300. I may just drop that and go Intel to save a few bucks. I do however use blue tooth. Is there any advantage from one card (Killer/Intel) over the other?
As far as dual PSUs, I already have dual PSUs for the X7200. So if I ordered, I'd have 3.
I'm hoping I can bench/test the 580s in the P570WM, just to verify that they work. Then I'll be selling/parting out the X7200.
It has a new 90% gamut gloss screen on it (2months old) which I figure if I don't like the 120Hz screen, I can swap the screen.
Definitely some great ideas though!

The 120hz screen uses a different cable so watch that. It wont dissapoint though.
-
As far as benching the 580m's in the new rig, I don't know, that I'd say is up to Clevo / Sager / Resellers with custom BIOSes to determine.
The 7260, according to This article is pretty much top of the heap in terms of range, speed, latency, etc., That's why I said to go for it. It also has Bluetooth.

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Any kind of proper overclocking of a pair of 780M cards would need 2 PSUs.
You may want to avoid pairing up non symmetric adapters though (the new models ship with 330W bricks IIRC). -
Ahh, Ok. I have 2 300w adaptors, think that would be Ok? I have two identical adaptors and the piece to plug both into and then plug into the system. Y adapter thing.
Also what screen is better? 120Hz 72% gamut or the gloss 60Hz 90% gamut? Right now I think I have to 92% gamut screen on the X7200. Something like that. It's a great screen.
