I'd just like to hear some opinions from those of you who own one, and what customizations you recommend. Also, where should I purchase it; powernotebooks or pctorque?

I think the 5720 is a fantastic machine in terms of (most of) its build quality and its performance is fantastic. When I had mine I had many hours of intense gaming at high settings and it never got any hotter than lukewarm. That's probably down to the Pentium M and the great cooling system in them.

Get the 2.0GHz Pentium M, it's the "sweet spot" in terms of performance and price. Also go for 2 GB of RAM and the 7800 GTX.

Sager sent me a duff one, so I sent it back. It had too much keyboard flex, wobbly USB ports and screen light leakage. Other than that, the build quality was great and it felt really solid compared to every other laptop I've had. They're huge, mind you!

I was told my Sager that my problems were "normal for the 5720", although people on this forum told me theirs didn't have any of those problems. Just make sure you use Powernotebooks.com, they are without doubt the most helpful, knowlegeable reseller I have ever used. You'll be hard pressed to find one complaint about them. I dealt with Donald Stratton and he gave me so much good advice my head was spinning.

Sager aren't so good for customer service, that's why you need the security of Powernotebooks.com. You can, however, get a full no questions asked refund from Sager if you send it back within 30 days. I opted for the refund because I wasn't happy with Sagers response to my problems - I guess it's up to you if you take that risk. Having said that, I don't think they're any worse than any other laptop manufacturer in terms of service.

Definitely www.powernotebooks.com. That's where I placed my order from as well, and they are, without a doubt, the best. They even sent me an email and asked me how the computer was and how I liked it after I had had it for about two weeks. Very helpful, and they don't push you to buy stuff. That type of customer service is hard to come by these days.

Bacon, how much are you willing to spend? If you're a gamer, get 2GB of RAm as noted, and a 1.86-2.0GHz is what to shoot for. The 770 (2.13GHz) and up are just too expensive to justify the relatively small performance increase.

A 7200RPM hard drive is a nice upgrade too, consider that.

I also bought mine from powernotebooks.com. It should be here this week. They sent me an email the day that it was mailed out. I worked with Ron who is also very knowledgeable!
I opted for the lower res screen since I use it mostly for daily applications. I got the 2.26, 2 gig ram and 100X7200 HD. Cant wait to get it and try it out!

Yes go with the 7200 rpm Hard Drive SATA and 2 GB of memory. You will be flying. Just hold on tight for the ride. Awesome laptop ! ! ! I owned this laptop since Nov '05. It keeps ROCK'N ! ! ! I would go with Discountlaptops for purchase. They are great before and after the purchase.

Yeah, DiscountLaptops is another great dealer. Also try PCTorque. I listed a bunch of different Sager dealers in my guide, which is stickied at the top of this forum.

    Cheers,

PCTorque is great. I ordered a 5320 from them. They were very friendly and put up with my missing patience :p

If you want to overclock your processor you should order a PATA hard disk over SATA though.

I've seen that mentioned before... Why does the type of hard drive affect the OC of the cpu?

I concur with all the recommendations listed. I got mine with the WSXGA+ screen and love it. Definitely make use of Chaz's guide. It's loaded with great info. As for where to buy, DiscountLaptops.com gets my vote. They're superb, as are the other outfits mentioned.

I recently purchased a different Sager model (np9750) from xoticpc. Justin provided excellent responsiveness. The unit arrived the fourth business day after the order was placed. Justin called two days later to see how things were going. (I'll be writing a full commentary on the xoticpc experience when the unit is better broken in.) At any rate, I think you would be pleased with xoticpc, too.

If I ever got a sager it'd be from PowerNotebooks, incredible reseller ratings. So, I basically second what Chaz said.
