A local gaming laptop seller here in Miami is selling basically a Sager 8662 with the following specs:
    • 15.4" WUXGA LCD (1920X1200)
    • Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53 Ghz 6MB L2 1066 FSB Cache
    • NVIDIA 9800M GT 512MB DDR3 MEM
    • 4GB DDR3 1066 Patriot Extreme Performance MEMORY
    • 250GB 7200 RPM Western Digital BLACK
    • DVD+-R/RW/4X + DL Super-Multi Drive
    • Intel WIFI Link 5300AGN 802.11/A/B/G/N
    • 1 HDMI Port & 3 USB Ports... yada yada yada

And he say there's "6 Months Warranty Remaining - More Warranty Can be purchased."

All in all he wants $1200 for it. Is it worth it? It's basically unused, and only used as a display model on the shelf and he wants to clear the space for the newer version with the 1GB x260M GPU.

    I appreciate any advice.

its a "good" deal only considering the 1920 screen

however, i couldnt even imagine that high resolution on that small a screen

Of course by a few hundred dollars you mean at least $600

But yeah I can see how that resolution would be difficult for regular tasks, but I imagine it would be decent for games and video.

Advice appreciated guys. How much of a difference between the 512MB 9800GT and the 1GB x260M?

The seller was saying that the actual memory would only make a difference if I was connecting the lappie to a huge display, but for this screen it shouldn't be much of an issue.

You can only extend the warranty within the first 3 months of purchase. Unless your eyes are 20/20 otherwise I wouldn't recommend WUXGA on a 15.4".

I would advise against that purchase. If it was a bit cheaper it might be a different matter.

the 260m is much better. the 260m has 16 more shaders, has a faster clock speed, and yes the extra ram is a nice bonus.

7950 GTX -> 8800M GTX is much better; 9800M GT -> 260M isn't. Have you seen the benchmark?

I haven't seen a benchmark of the 260m, just specs. But the 280m outperforms the 9800 gtx, I assumed the 260m would outperform the 9800gt since the spec upgrade is about the same from the latter example.

Actually technically it's not even a Sager it's just the Clevo M860TU rebranded but I realized that after posting.

So I guess I should go with the smaller resolution screen and what not.

I've found an equivalent one at AVADirect with the choice between:
    9800GTS 512MB GDDR3 or
    GTX 260M 1GB GDDR3

This of course is on the generic Clevo M860TU

Oh and thanks for the advice LaptopNut and Nirvana
