I have been struggling with making a decision on which notebook to buy for the longest time. I almost bought the m15x, then almost bought the gateway 6860. But I finally decided to go with the Sager NP5793 from xoticpc.com based on all the comments from this forum(thanks to all who helped). I hope everything goes smoothly because I can't wait to start playing games on it. :D

I really don't understand how people are jumping from the m15x and then to the 5793? Aren't the dynamics and wants of a 15" to 17" different?

Always thought when people were looking at the m15x, they wanted a 15" with power, and attempted to avoid a 17".

I did not care for the size, I originally wanted something powerful and can last me a while. The m15x caught me at first because of the power and the clean looks. I jumped to the np5793 because I have heard so many good comments on its overall build being better than the m15x.

Good decision, but ya jumped the gun too soon. The next generation of Clevo M570TU will have Motevina, but more importantly, HDMI and eSATA ports! Slated for release this June, I believe.

The performance difference between the RU and TU will be non existent, since they will be the same laptops...
Sure, HDMI and e-Sata are nice, but I`m hoping the TU will have support for something else too :)
Nice config @haix714 , you will have all the power you need with it :)

i don't understand people like that, either. i don't think they know what they want or need and just get swept away by what gpu is in the system(s). maybe they are better off with a desktop.

In an age of huge screen HDTV, an HDMI port is a must! I would buy the 5793 in a heart beat if there was an HDMI port.

Well, the first thing I ask when I am helping someone buy a notebook is "size, size size.... what size screen do you want? (as screen size most always determines system size)"... everything stems from this, but there are always exceptions I guess.

Size is everything. Be it small or large, it has to please you.
I would get an EEE PC for fun, but I need a 17 incher just to be able to say I can see it :D

It's a lot more difficult carrying around a desktop when I am on the road. I wanted the m15x because it just looked a lot better than the np5793 in my opinion. It wasn't the screen size that changed my mind. I was very close to purchasing the m15x but i just heard too many people complain about them.

I guess some people just want powerful, and are willing to go from a m1530 to a colossal 20" laptop to get it.

I respect the decision, it just differs from what I understand people may want from a laptop and that's either portability, performance or with the introduction of the m860TU, both. :)

that was my idea, but then i kept on hearing so many issues with the m15x. one of my biggest concerns was how the chassis was made of cheap plastic the creaked when you touched it (not to mention its CPU downclocking because of inneficient cooling system)

also, the m15x is not that much more portable than the 5793. the 5793 weighs about 8.1lbs with battery, while the m15x weighs about 7.9lbs (not 7.2 like AW advertise)

so the only real difference in that factor is a tiny bit of weight. for that extra amount though, you get a 17inch screen and a stable system.

i might actually wait for the new 15 inch clevo comming out. either way i will be going with a sager bought from Xotic PC

DVI = HDMI minus sound input, which in the case of most computers with HDMI, there is no sound anyways. Hopefully this will change soon if not already. I believe the new desktop video cards that offer HDMI have a input on the card for sound now.

All current laptops (at least the ones I have owned) have DVI, which with a cheap 5-10 dollar adaptor or DVI>HDMI cable works quite flawlessly with huge screen TV's.

Just an FYI if case you didn't know.

I had a couple quick questions for the op...

First off, what kind of games do you plan on playing? How much was your final total? Also, you have 4 gigs so I'm assuming you went with the 64bit Vista option?

I was curious to know this because I've heard a wide range of reviews and discussions about Vista, and I too am on the verge of purchasing this same model, but I didn't know if going with Vista to have the extra 2 gigs was worth the price, or if choosing XP Pro with just 2 gigs was a better option.

i have 4 gigs on mine and it came with vista 64. i went back to xp and i can utilize 3 gigs of ram out of the 4 gigs.

so you can stick with 4 gigs of ram, use 3 gigs of that and upgrade to vista when the dust settles with that OS to utilize the last gig.

personally i have seen the m15x in person and imo i think it looks cheap. it has very thin plastic and it has flex to it in a lot of areas. i also again imo think the finish on it looked kinda cheap. i LOVED THE lighting though the keyboard especially that was just killer for when the lights are low or out.. i WISH the sager had that.. but other than that imo i would not trade the sager for that alienware.. i loved it when i saw it online then a friend bought one and he brought it to my shop and no offense to those that love them but i was kinda glad i passed on it

    Thanks ARGH and Zfactor

Well I'm not sure how the RAM influences the card... I chose the nVidia GeForce 8800M GTX, so I'm not sure if going with the 4 gigs would be a safer option, or if XP is even going to be able to utilize all of it, or should I just stick with 2 gigs...that was my overall dilemma.

If you get the 8800 you might as well get the 4 gigs cos of the current deal that makes it the same price as 2 gigs. winXP will see ~3.25 gigs if you really want to use that and vista 32 will see the same. If you go with vista 64 (I as well as most other ppl on this forum have V64 and are very happy with it) then you get to use the full 4GB.
