Miracles! After replacement screen on my Clevo P170HM to AUO "B173 RW01 v.3", my GeForce GTX580M began to work only on the maximum clocks! 620/1500! Continually! (GPU load=0% clock = 620/1500) Not 51/135
After return back old screen - clocks return in stock !!
    Screens the same... 1600 x 900, LED, 40pin.

Try reinstalling your gpu driver after installation of the new screen...

Now return AUO "B173 RW01 v.3" display & Reinstall video driver - same problem... clocks 620/1500 constantly !! And temr=55C instead 38-40C with old display and 51/135
    ???

Not particularly apt at this sort of thing, but perhaps the new screen has its own driver that is not being automatically detected?

I have not found any driver for this display. AUO "B173 RW01 v.3"
.... I think what problem not in the display driver (Laptop do not have any display drivers... only universal driver).
It seems to me, as at loading from CD (without OS Windows) - clocks of the GPU maximum in my case with the new display.! IMHO

I would like to use AUO, colour is better, but......!!
    The mysterious display !!

Cable - one, it is in the laptop. And sockets - identical, 40 pins
I think that if sockets were different -new display would not work. But the display works normal... problem only with continually max GPU clocks!

    Old 40pins socket

    New AUO "B173 RW01 v.3" 40pins socket

P.S In stock GPU 580M has 3 mode clocks:
    1. Level one (P12) idle 51/135
    2. Level two (P8) 3d gaming on battery 74/324
    3. Level three (P0) 3d gaming plugged in 620/1500
When I disconnect the power supply unit (only battery is remain) - clocks change to 74/324.... But not 51/135.
As power supply unit - ON, clocks goes to 620/1500 !

As though the new display switch ON "3d gaming mod" P8 or P0!

Boot windows in safe mode and see if the clocks still remain in 3d mode...press F8 during boot.
If it is fine there, then some software or power setting keeps the card in 3D.
I am 100% sure that a fresh windows install on new display will fix the issue.

The old display - all works OK. Switch OFF a laptop, change the display to new, switch ON and........ the problem!
I do not change any drivers, I do not install any software.
Switch OFF - change the display to old, switch ON - no problem !
Why with old display some software or power setting DO NOT keeps the card in 3D and with new - keeps ?

OK, now i will try change display again and boot in safe mode...

I am not sure what the cause is but when you installed Windows you used the old screen. Maybe you have an other hdd flying arround where you could first try to make a fresh install of windows?!

Also maybe BIOS reports wrong stuff to the OS a clear cmos of your bios could help then

    Good luck!

Install the old monitor, boot windows, uninstall GPU drivers and go to device manager and uninstall any monitor it has listed if any.

    Shut down laptop.

    Put on new monitor.

Boot up, install GPU drivers and you should be fine.

Booting off a CD or safe mode won't allow the GPU to down clock any as it is done in combination with the drivers (except when on battery and the max speed is hard coded lower).

After doing this let us know your results. Also keep in mind that some of the newer drivers have a delay in the clock stepping down even on idle so let is sit for a few min and see what it does.

It's possible it is seeing the difference screen and thinking you have two (because old one was detected prior) and when you have dual screens GPU runs at max clock. (thus why I say remove whatever monitor, even if generic in dev manager.)

Yes it's a driver/software issue. Listen to him and if it doesn't help just go with the reinstall. In any case you will be fine with the new screen...no worries! :)

I fulfilled as stated above recommendations, but alas... The result is not present! All remains on former....
GPU is continually in 3D (P0) clocks mode 620/1500 !!

Check your geforce drivers and see what the Power Management Mode is. Perhaps when you installed the new screen, it switched over to Prefer Maximum Performance? The fact is, nVidia drivers have a bug in the clock throttling.

Alas,.... Power management mode - adaptive!
When I connect old monitor (without reinstall driver) - clocks normal (P8, P12) !
