I keep feeling like 1680x1050 will be a better native res to have for more demanding games, especially down the road from now when they're even more demanding. I am worried that scaling resolution down from native 1920 will look poor and blurry.

First is 1280x1024, second is 800x600 scaled to 1280x1024.

Decide if the bluriness is too much for you. Highlight post for more.

Blurriness is most significant in the parrot's eye and letters in bottom right. If you didn't see this before you read it, then you've just been placebo effected.

Thanks for the comparison Lithus, I do notice quite a bit of detail lost in the conversion. Just less crisp overall and a bit blurry. I am pretty sure I will end up picking 1680 just to be on the safe side, I figured I could get a 1920x1050 external monitor if I ever wanted to move up.

I personally recommend the WUXGA. I doubt you are going to be gaming on this notebook 24/7 and when you are not gaming, you'll come to appreciate the extra screen real estate. I have two monitors hooked up to my desktop, a 1680x1050 and a 1920x1200. There is considerably more room on the 1920.

I have tested many notebooks with the 8800M-GTX and have yet to find a game that GPU can't run at max settings and a 1920 resolution save for Crysis (you just have to turn the settings down a bit).

well all I can say is the 1920 screen rocks big time
and as for having to run things at lower resolutions, I have Serious Sam first encounter, and that wont go past 1600x1200 and that looks crisp as anything

I drop the resolution a little for crysis as I am still experiementing on best settings.
    and that looks fine too

like Chaz says the real estate is a boon, unless of course you need to make text and icons bigger as they are pretty teeny on the 17" display

I dont think I would be able to use this resolution on a 15" like the alienware m15x has as an option! :)

    Wuxga is the best choice.
Better to have more than less. Also, full HD movies look superb :)
