I'm sure this has been answered but I can't find it.

I have a Sager NP8170 (Clevo P170HM) with a burned out 6990M which has been baked to capacity and needs to be replaced.

Will GTX 560M, 580M, 670M, or 675M GPUs from an Alienware machine work when swapped into a Clevo P170HM?

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to NBR. 99.9% of the time they will not work.

Incompatible ec bios which does not work well when the heat is on (3D).
    As per Hustady post.

Thanks for the quick response. That's exactly the answer I needed.

True, it just required a vBIOS flash. The prevailing wisdom is to go with a Clevo card for Clevo systems, though.

I would quicker suggest to you OP to grab a clevo 680M and use Prema's BIOS to get it to work.

The 680M is a little too pricey. I'm looking at a 670M. I'm just curious what I need to do to get a 670M to work in my machine. It doesn't sound like it is plug and play.

Actually... I don't know. I've been looking for Prema's BIOS for it, and I can't find it. Usually you flash prema's BIOS that lets it accept later cards then you simply put the cards in then you're done. But the HM model is not on his website any longer.

I'm a bit sad to say this, but it might actually be a nicer idea for you to sell the rest of your machine for parts and buy a newer model. I can't guarantee any card that wasn't already released when your machine had come out working in it, and I cannot be certain that plopping a nVidia card into an AMD-sold system will work on those clevo models. Sorry.

I was looking on Prema's site too and it looks like all the drivers for the H series are gone. Does anyone still have them or know where they can be found?

You cant get a AMD 7970m but you would have to flash the bios to take off the Enduro feature from AMD. I had a p150hm with the same graphics card and flash it myself with a tutorial on these forums. They are on here but I cant find it.
