Hey guys I just bought a barebones m7700 from ebay for 700 bucks. I have been reading up but I'm very confused as to what I have to do to get it running. I don't really need this unit But it seems like it could be a very good value for the money. I would love some suggestions for hardware to get this unit up. I want it to be stupid fast and powerful a true desktop replacement. here is the link please look over the specs tell me what you think

I know they have a few more units if anyone wants to jump on it.

This is still a good notebook if you can get the barebones for under $900.

Although its kind of a hassle to get the other components:
Processor: any Socket 939 CPU (AMD Athlon 64/X2/FX or Opteron 1xx)
Hard Drive(s): up to two SATA 2.5" HDDs
    Memory: up to 2GB DDR400 (2 x 1GB)
Video Card***: up to 7950GTX (previous Clevo proprietary module)
Optical Drive(s): up to two, any is fine (most common DVD-RW is Pioneer DVR-K17)

*** the videocard is probably the most difficult to find.... usually goes for around $500. Some have gotten it from eBay since Clevo and its resellers have it backordered. And you will have to make sure the BIOS is updated to fully recognize the 7950GTX.

However, I should point out that....

    - this notebook is old technology (using discontinued CPU socket and DDR1 memory... and non-standard GPU module).
    - this notebook's thermal design is not as efficient as the model after it. (the CPU is cooled fine, but the GPU is placed in an awkward location with a basic heatsink and fan)

i would recommend to get a newer Clevo model... or this:

    - its one of the best selling 17" gaming notebooks.

I havn't committed yet. I came across and it just seems to cheap to let it go by. I can get a 7800 gtx for 479 after everything if i spend 1600 that still seems pretty cheap. How outdated is it really? we often get caught up with numbers but 2 gigs of memory and an x2 in it...is it reallly oldddd? I spemd 3000 now and be in the safe situation 1 year or two down the road

I spent around $3000 last March 2006 to build my D900K.

Its still one of the fastest notebooks out there, and the 7800GTX is still more powerful than the new 8600M GT's.

But I wished that this notebook had the new MXM-IV slot... for future upgrades... as well as having better cooling (with heatpipes like in the newer models.)

If you can get the fully loaded notebook for under $1500-1800, then its a good deal to go for.
