.. and a wild Samsung 7 series appeared! Someone is selling that on local classified for 1250cdn. Comparing to the clevo, it is a 17" screen with a better gtx 675m and 2hdd in raid0 for 1.5TB. Currently the p150em with 670m and 95% gamut screen could be had for a solid 1150shipped.

Well my budget is topped at 1200 and I'm looking if any of you enthusiasts had switched between these 2 brands for your opinions. I could save up for another week to expand my budget but I'm more worried if the 7 series is comparable in quality/support/anything relevant. Thanks for the help!

If you get the Clevo with the 675MX be a lot more fun IMO. And it's going to be in the long run a better purchase with upgrading and maintenance.

Well, when buying from the right reseller, the support for Sagers is pretty unmatched. However, you need to consider what you want to use the laptop for.

Now if this is the Samsung Gamer edition (Which is the only one I know of that comes with the 675m, but I might be wrong on that) The it actually has very comparable size to an NP9170. It is pushing 9 pounds and has the 17 inch screen (which you mentioned). Though, if it is a gamer edition they are around $1,800 USD new (1750ish CDN) So that would be a pretty good deal if there is nothing wrong with it.

As stated before, you cannot get to any of the parts of the Samsung for repastes or anything like that, it is a very closed system. It was also reviewed a few times to get extremely hot. One particluar review that I watched noted that the volume control keys next to the power button actually reached 114 F at one point while they were running it through game testing (I don't remember which game). With the combination of nothing being able to easily repaste it and it getting very hot, it might be a bit of work once you get it to make sure that it isn't going to melt your table.

It does have an insanely cool switch one the side (at least, I think it is a cool idea) that lets you switch between power modes simply by turning it. Such as: Long life (Low brightness and backlighting) Library mode (Brighter screen, low keyboard lighting, low fan speed) Media mode (Medium brightness on screen, none on the keyboard, medium fan speed) and game mode (all out). When switching to Game mode it does a pretty cool transformer thing, changing the background to one that moves a small bit at first and altering the lights on the keyboard.

    So here is your comparison:

The sager will have better service (With a good reseller of course), better accessibility, upgradeability, a stronger frame, it will run cooler, and will be a bit more portable since it is the 15in screen.

The Samsung will have a bit more power graphically, it will be more flashy, and is probably the better now deal though upgrading it will void any warranty you have through Samsung.

I did not talk a lot about the NP9150 here, simply because I assume you know everything you need to know about it already since you were ready to pull the trigger.

Thanks for inputs guys. Yea I read a lot of the np9150 and felt that the current deal of 1150shipped cant be beat (as I live in canada?) I'm pretty confident of upgradability too because I still see people working on their np8xxx and they have retained their value in the market place.

The Samsung laptop looks to have a nice finish and a nice design. I didn't think about it at all until the wild ad showed up this morning. But if it is as you said about the temperature and all that, I would assume the fan would be loud as well. Not something that I look forward to.

Although I have not worked on the internals of a laptop I think I am able to manage the labor work. Sager/clevo seems to be the better deal. I think I'll get it with 670m for now and upgrade to other stuff later on.

Samsung Series 7 Gamer - YouTube

2:15 he talks about the heat.

Like I said, I'm not even sure it is the gamer edition, but it is the only one I know of that comes stock with the 675m.

Good find man. 15mins of gaming raised it to 114F is mind boggling. Not gonna live with that..

I would ask the reseller about the free upgrade that most are providing. I think this is just to get inventory moving and I won't mind helping them out :)

I came in here to mention the heat issue, but it looks like that has been covered. I was also surprised when I first saw the Samsung while shopping for laptops and thought it was too good to be true...yep, the heat issues are terrible.

That temp seems to be the keyboard looking at the reviews, not the CPU or GPU.

So 45c at the heat sink outlet means the GPU must be at 70-75? Is that something healthy?

Yes, 45c is cool for a gaming laptop on the processor at idle, That is 45c on the surface where your hands are, which is not cool at all. That means your hands being on the WASD keys, as per normal in most games, are going to be in the 95-100 range most likely. If that does not bother you than it isn't a big issue.

But I have owned a laptop that had a heat dispersion on the place where I rested my hand and I hated it.

For high performance parts, 75 is fine on the GPU and CPU. Like I said though, that 114 F is actually on the surface of the laptop, not from a sensor.

This. Buying 670M/675M now is a waste.

it seems like I won't be able to find a p150em with the mx cards or 675m for 1150 shipped to my place... just gonna respect the budget :p

yea but I agree that 670m and 675m now are wasting time. I hope they hold up until 7970m goes down a little and the enduro things are fixed, then I could jump on the AMD wagon

that will be exactly what I recommend too. It's not too much to upgrade to the 7970m. It's only a couple of weeks more before we can confirm the fix. Good luck to you.
