    Hello,

I am just about ready to purchase my first laptop through XoticPC. I am looking at buying the Sager NP8662 (most likely configuration: 4GB RAM, Nvidia 260M, 320 GB 5.4K hard drive, plan to install Win7 RC1, standard everything else). <-- Note the processor was excluded.

My first question: I was wondering just how much of a difference going from a P8700 processor to the rumored P8800 processor would make in terms of gaming. (Would it be worth the wait, or could I make up the deficit with overclocking or whatnot?)

Secondary question: What is up with the rumored to be released processors, i.e. If I order now will my processor be automatically upgraded, or is it still too early to hope for an automatic upgrade? (On another note has XoticPC even received the rumored new processors yet?)

Thanks in advance for reading my rambling barrage of new laptop/ordering questions. Any opinions on this matter(s) would be greatly appreciated!

XoticPC claimed as of last week that if you ordered your Sager laptop the new processor would be included in the build. The only reason you couldn't see that new processors as options is because Intel had a NDA preventing Xotic from posting the processors by name earlier. That said, I was working with the understanding that that NDA was lifted for June 1st and have been checking all day to see the new processors as I decided to wait for them to actually appear before ordering... note that, of course, they have not shown up yet as of the time of my posting.

So yes, you should get the new processor... as for when they'll actually become visible as selectable options on the Xotic order form, no clue.

2.4 vs. 2.66 and both have 3MB of cache...

    Not much really.

For most games, the GPU is the bottleneck.

But if you can wait that long, what the heck, why not?

I think there's already a thread here, where Justin from xoticpc confirmed (at least for the P9700) that it will be a free upgrade when you order now-

there ya go...already answered before my post-

As others have stated you will get the new processors that are being released very soon (at no charge :)). Unfortunately due to Intel NDA we are unable to launch and provide specs until the early morning hours on 6/3/09. Intel's NDA is official lifted on 6/3 @ 12:01 AM.

Justin i have another question then. After the switch to the new processors, will the price of them be similar or the same as the old ones.. i.e. p9600 to p9700?

And also any news on when the m865tu will be coming out?

    Thanks :D

Pricing is the same for the new equivalent processors. i.e. P9600, P9700

The 8662 is not being updated anytime soon. It was just released.

Excuse for intruding but since we are on NP8662 thread...

What kind of display is that, is it LED backlit or CCFL?

Just ordered my NP8662 from XOTICPC.com. Very, very excited for it. Had a few questions, and I already experienced the solid customer service of XOTICPC. Looking forward to trying out the new unit!
