I've just used my laptop for 1 week and I already have to RMA it. I keep getting BSOD whenever I try to bootup Win 7. Got the BSOD screen while playing Heroes of Newerth for about 45 minutes. It made a loud noise until I rebooted the laptop.
I've already contacted both my Reseller's and Sager's technical support. Sager thought it is a GPU issue. I have the 6970m GPU.
Pretty bummed out, because it I'm loving this laptop. And I just bought 4 games to try out over the weekend (Crysis 2, BF: Bad Company 2, Witcher 1 and 2), but now I can't even play it.![]()
On a side note, Sager's RMA service is quick. I called about an hour ago and they said I'm suppose to receive my shipping label later today. That's pretty quick! Though I haven't received it just yet...

Are you only getting BSOD when playing games/booting it up? Have you tried reinstalling the drivers? If you happen to see it again, could you post the error code from the BSOD? It may be possible to narrow down the exact cause that way. (but if you're already RMA'ing it, it may just help others that have the issue in the future)
-
Sorry to hear that, but you should count yourself lucky! I got mine last Friday and used it for about 30 minutes before it died. Good thing I got that 95% matte screen, it made the windows 7 install process a very vivid experience. -
Also, the specs are:
I7-2630QM
Radeon 6970m
8gb 1333mhz
Seagate Momentus XT 500gb /w 4gb SSD
I did grab the error codes. The first one was 0x00000124. But after I was fiddling around with the laptop when technical support told me to do so, a new one came up. It was 0x0000009C. The first one never appeared again. My reseller tech support suspected it was the ram, but Sager said it's most likely the GPU.
Also, don't think I'm getting the shipping label today. Oh wells. But Sager never told me what to return back to them. Do I just send them the laptop with or without the battery? How about the PSU? I'd like to get this all packaged up, so when the shipping label is here, I can just send it away. Hopefully I can play all the new games I bought early next week. -
if there are no shortage of parts or serious weather or whatnot, i'm sure you'll have it back in about a week.
-
Am i the only one who thinks that 6970m in Sager notebooks are getting more RMA'ed now than before? Hope Nvidia/Amd updates their flagships shortly...

If you're not booting at all now, even in safe mode, then it is almost certainly a hardware issue as others surmised. You could try a bootable memtest disk to check the memory sticks though. That error code isn't extremely definitive as it could be a memory OR GPU issue- so at this point, having your reseller take a look at it probably was the simplest thing.

Also, for future reference: When i RMA'ed my 8130 (Due to the intel sandy bridge recall, not a faulty part in the system) My machine was gone from me for roughly 10 days, 8 of which were in shipping to and from the manufacturer.
I was actually pretty impressed with the turnaround, as a friend had to RMA a dell system earlier this year and it was gone for almost 6 weeks. Bright side, that system was over 3 years old, and out of warranty, but they still covered the repar. (At least the class action with the nvidia cards was useful for that.) -
whenever you get a BSOD in the future can you run Who Crashed which will give us all a much better idea as it gives a detailed dump report.
-
I played Fallout 3, Mass effect 2 and FIFA 11 on mine and it's all good still. Temps never reached 90'C. Maybe 85 max. Don't remember.
-
I've had mine a few months now and no problems so far! Anyone having problems with nvidia?
-
-
Hey all, just to give you an update. Sager has repaired my machine and it turns out it was the CPU that caused the BSOD. It was not the GPU that was at fault. It's suppose to arrive here today, yay! Can finally play all those games I bought.
Also, Sager's customer service has been great so far. Ty from the tech dept was very helpful and quick to answer all of my questions. I'm a very happy Sager owner.Although, for some reason they've given me the wrong UPS tracking # twice. Once when they were suppose to ship me the UPS label to return to them, and second time when they shipped my laptop out. I eventually got the right tracking # from them, but it caused me some delay to ship my package to them. Could have gotten my laptop sooner!

great news.
keep an eye on the 6970 though as they have been removed from sagers site now due to failure rate. if it passed their test it should be fine though so dont worry and enjoy your second time around new lappy. -
Yeah ive seen alot of issues with the 6970m and the fact that it seems alot of sellers r dropping them from the options list tells me that we wont be seeing them around in the next few months.
-
What do you guys think? 580m's out of the question, although I do have cash to spend on it, but I'm not so sure I'd want it though. -
I'd say go for the 485M. 3D screen is nonexistent with a P150HM though; I think you should strive for a P170HM for that. See if you could manage?
-
Well, I'd be using an external 3d monitor for the 3d effects, I know that the p150HM does not have a built in 3d screen like it's bigger brother, but the 15.6" is perfect for portability for me. The 17" is a tad too big.
If I return my laptop, will I have to pay shipping to return? Or you think the reseller can just make me pay the price difference and mail me the GPU myself and I install it? That would be the ideal method, so I don't lose much downtime with my new laptop. -

I can't say for sure. You'd have to ask them, I don't know if 3D will work on another screen, but feel free to try!
And if you JUST ordered your lappy there should be a 30 day return or something? You could probably just say you want the upgraded GPU and pay the upgrade price. If it's older than that though, I can't say. Ask your dealer! -
that can't be done..
You will have to pay the full retail price of the card, and sell the 6970m somewhere else. -
Ah...yea I'm still within the 30 day return policy. My laptops only been 2 weeks old.

I'm in the same boat. http://forum.notebookreview.com/7634662-post209.html
It's the card I'm sure. -

^ did something smell funny?
-
this happened on dell 4 times
-
Wow, so I started up my computer this morning, and it wouldn't boot up. At first it showed the POST Screen, then there are these greens horizontal lines going across it, then screen faded to white/grayish color and remained there until it went black. Wouldn't boot up to Windows7. Restarting/Turning off didn't work, but when I unplugged the AC adapter, and turned on the laptop, it works...
What's going on with this laptop? Never had so much problems with a computer before. Does problem sound familiar to anyone? -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
Sounds like it could be a faulty PSU. Don't worry about it, it sounds like you're just a victim of some really bad luck
Mr. Mysterious -
I had received the sager 8170 a few weeks ago with the radeon 6970 and had to RMA it because I was getting grey and black vertical lines.
Thought that was a GPU issue. Was reading it was called the GSOD (Grey Screen of Death) and was an issue with ATI cards.
Anyhow now I've got a new one on the way with a GTX 485m.
Btw I'm new to the forums, this is my first post. I've been reading the forums for about a month now though. -
well, if it''s called GSOD, then that may be what I'm having. I just tried to run Crysis 2 and it first gave me these blue/green horizontal lines and then it fayded to the gray screen and nothing would work! MAN! out of the 3 weeks I've had this laptop, I've only been able to use it for 1 week.
Energyo, when you got a "new" one on the way, did you return this laptop to your reseller and bought a new one? Or did you request Sager tech to put in the 485m? And I'm assuming you paid extra to get the 485m?
If my issue is because of the GPU, I am definitely going to try to get the 485m. But this computer's been having so much problems, so I just return it and get a new one? Or just upgrade the 485m and hope for the best? Because I'm in my 3rd week of this laptop, and 30 days return policy almost up... -

If you're wanting to get the 485m I would recommend contacting your reseller and setting up a return and reorder the model with the appropriate card.
-
Was within the 30 day return period. -
Ah okay.
I've just spoken to my reseller, going to return and reorder a new on with the 485m. I can't wait for the second time! -_-
BTW, after sorta messing with this thing, I'm not sure 100% how a laptop is fitted together, but I can get it to "flicker" and do odd things when I move my screen around. I'm thinking when I sent it in on the first RMA for the CPU, they may have not connected the cables properly to the GPU. Either way, new laptop nonetheless.
Already have to RMA my 8150-S1 :(
