Are there any UK alternatives to Rock that anyone can recommend at all? I know that people tend to like to say Rock as the #1, but I don't like the fact that HD-DVD is mandatory with their lappies.

Easy, Novatech. Save yourself a packet while you are at. Or Evesham but again, they like to charge more for no reason!

Cheers, off looking @ Novatech now!

    EDIT

£620 for a no OS 15.4"... not bad really! Considering its an alternative to the MSI GX610 I've been looking at (the non flame edition), thats a decent saving.

And they have good prices too. Too bad they don't ship outside UK, but do they?

I live in NZ, I got a rock shipped to me a while ago, I must say there service & support was the best I have recieved so far.

But damn the novatech prices look good, if I lived in the UK at those prices I may move to novatech, but like I said rock's support was great, worth a few extra pounds!!!

Evesham keep going out of business though. Just this last week they had problems again and their website disappeared.

Also their prices for the m570ru rebrand were up over £2000. Novatech @£1400 is silly money.

They are, comparing the Alpha R to a similarly specced Evesham... its a couple of hundred quid more.

Rock look absolute quality, but thats pushing on towards the 1k mark.

    Hi Nox! (novatech forum)

I think Novatech may do worldwide shipping, I am sure they were planning to do something.

There prices are brilliant, I would go for a Rock if I couldn't go for Novatech.

I wouldn't, they're too expensive and probably because of having a HD-DVD inside.

Yeah, I don't want HDDVD forced upon me since it takes the price right up.
I need something thats a good price and 15.4".

Nox, how do you find the screen quality on your x80r? I'm considering one after trying a couple of Dells. I really want a perfect screen though, no backlight leakage or grain.

Sorry for the thread hijack Widge.

It's like other M571RUs out there. NotebookReview said: "Gorgeous display", so it should be a good one.
